“The diner’s good,” she politely but determinedly stayed committed to her answer.
The diner was walking distance from her place, whereas the Italian place wasn’t. Something about that made me think I was right. She had been about to turn him down because she really didn’t want to go on a date with him. She was just doing this to make a point. Me and my big fucking mouth!
“I can pick you up, Callie,” Trevor gently offered as he moved closer and reached for her hand. “Do this right.”
“For the future stories you might tell?” she asked with a teasing lilt in her voice. I could tell that no matter how much she tried to ignore I was standing right there, she could feel my presence loud and clear.
Good, because this time-and-space nonsense I’d put out there was bullshit.
“Exactly.” He squeezed her hand. My brows furrowed at the sight.
He is touching her! I wanted to rip it off and toss it behind him so he could fetch it like a damn dog. Who does Trevor Grant think he is, touching what is mine?
“Diner’s good,” she repeated. He nodded.
“Okay, then, diner at five. I should get out of here.”
“Back to the Lamda Lamda party?” she asked.
“Why would I do that? You’re here.” He winked.
I could see her finding herself interested in him. He was a nice guy. Clean cut and charming.
“Thanks for your help, Adam,” Trevor muttered as he patted my shoulder and walked out of the gym. I turned and focused my attention on Callie.
“What do you think you’re doing?” I hissed, still not able to calm down and think straight.
“Right now? I’m working. What exactly are you doing?”
“You know that’s not what I mean. With Trevor. What are you doing with him?”
“I’m going on a date.” She sprayed the counter and wiped it with a white towel. “Isn’t that what you said I needed to do last time we spoke? That I needed to get a life? One without you?”
“I never said one without—“
“Doesn’t matter,” she cut me off, with a smile that didn’t reach her eyes. “What did you want to talk about?” she asked, but her eyes kept darting over my shoulder towards the gym equipment.
I glanced over and swallowed hard when I saw them. Fuck! This was the last thing I needed. A group of Omega Kai’s were headed our way. One in particular looked familiar, but I didn’t know her name. Hell, I was pretty sure I’d seen that whole group around my frat’s parties, but I only had eyes for the curvy brunette in front of me. Not that she had any idea about that.
The girl with a blunt bob walked right over to me and reached for my shoulder.
“Hey, baseball boy.” She grinned and leaned against the counter Callie had just wiped down. “You had a great game last night.”
“Thanks.”
“I was wondering if maybe you were going to celebrate at the Lamda party tonight?”
“I—“
“Because…” She slid up closer, brushing her body against mine. Everything in me revolted against the feeling of any woman that close to me who wasn’t Callie. This girl obviously had no clue what personal space was.
“I could help you celebrate. Me and my friend.” She pointed behind her, and one of the other girls wiggled her fingers at me, swaying back and forth in what I could only assume was an attempt to entice me with her cleavage.
“I’m okay, but thanks. I’m going to hang out with my best friend.”
“Her?” The girl made a face, obviously pissed about being rejected. She was freaking relentless. Most girls like her were. She rose on the tips of her toes and leaned forward to whisper in my ear, just loud enough so Callie could listen.
“If you change your mind, you know where to find us. The three of us could have a lot of fun.” I stepped back, and she rolled her eyes, then told her girls it was time to head out.
