“Until you either kill them or make them your puppets.” He flicked a look back at his friends, and kept limping closer. “I made a promise. Eryn will never be a monster like you. She won’t be like your ‘sisters’ outside.”
Every scrap of energy he could muster. Every blink conserved to fuel what little energy he had into this one move.
Not strong enough to do much damage, but he wouldn’t need to.
While Tisiphone guarded Eryn’s front, Eryn slipped a knife from the block behind her.
With trembling hands, a weak, weary grip, Vann lifted his blade toward Tisiphone, and Eryn behind her.
Eryn didn’t falter.
With a swift, calculated motion, Eryn drove the knife straight into the fury’s back.
Shock widened Tisiphone’s eyes. Frozen as she calculated, protecting her own injuries. Knowing she wasn’t leaving this room alive.
With the knife embedded in the demon’s back, Eryn growled, “You know who deserves vengeance?”
Tisiphone searched Eryn’s gaze.
“Magaera. Alecto. All of your sisters after.” Eryn twisted the knife.
Tisiphone yelped out in pain.
Eryn ripped out the knife and smacked her hand on Tisiphone’s face. “You’ve got a fucked-up view of sisterhood.”
Hand braced at her side, Tisiphone grabbed Eryn’s hand.
Veins bulged under their joined hands. Tense, pale.
Eryn searched for a familiar sensation, for a reflection of herself.
No warning. In the silence of the moment, as Eryn’s veins filled with ice, Tisiphone unleashed a demonic scream.
Every hunter, vampire, and werewolf in the room covered their ears and roared against the sound.
Eryn ignored the mind-splitting pain and focused. She braced for the ice to invade her veins.
Even with a ruptured kidney, Tisiphone was unimaginably strong.
Still screaming to keep the room in immobilizing pain, Tisiphone rotated Eryn in her arms. In a blink, Eryn lost her grip. Tisiphone smacked her hand on Eryn’s cheek.
Icy claws tugged at her. Deep into her.
Realization burned as Tisiphone dug for her soul.
Eryn tried to scream back, but the pressure was too intense.
She gripped the knife and jabbed Tisiphone’s side.
The screaming stopped. Tisiphone snarled as she sought to rip the rest of Eryn’s soul from her.
Blocked off. Irretrievable. The harder Tisiphone tugged, the higher the wall built.
Eryn growled at the tugging pain.
Vann roared with fresh pain. He felt it, too.
Tisiphone smacked her cheek and tried again. “No… you… why can’t I…”
