And I would make damn sure that his first time, and every time after that was nothing short of mind-blowing for him.

Chapter 13

TATE

“Motherfuck!”

“Carter, stop scaring my boyfriend,” I mumbled, muffled by Luc’s shirt.

I hadn’t even realized I’d fallen asleep on the couch until I felt Carter making biscuits on my thigh. It was quite relaxing actually, until Luc woke up.

Carter wasn’t fazed by Luc’s outburst. He slunk off my leg and tucked himself under my arm, purring the whole way. Luc’s heartbeat gradually increased until it was a steady thump in my ear.

“He’s not going to hurt you,” I said groggily, dropping my arm around Carter and attempting to go back to sleep. I was so tired.

Luc, however, wasn’t going to let that happen.

If it wasn’t his heart racing a mile a minute, it was his erratic breathing.

“Okay. I’m up.” I blinked my eyes open and sat up, patting Carter on the butt. “You’re sitting on my bladder anyway.”

He grumbled, but hopped off the couch and sauntered into his room.

When I came out of the bathroom, Human Carter had taken my seat. I surprised myself by curling up in Luc’s lap instead.

“So…” Carter began. “Boyfriend?”

“Mhm…” I was still half asleep, unprepared for the Big Brother act that Carter was more than happy to dish out. “Can we do the whole interrogation thing after coffee?” I yawned; Luc’s arm tightened around my waist. “How long was I out?”

Last thing I remembered was rutting against Luc’s lap until I blew my load in the front of my pajama pants.

He… still hadn’t let me get a single hand on him and try as I might to tell myself it wasn’t because of my inexperience, those doubts still crept right in and made themselves at home.

“Couple hours,” Luc finally said, threading his hands through my hair, nails scratching my scalp. A few seconds of that and I was damn near asleep again. “It’s still early.”

“And a Sunday,” Carter added.

Before I lost myself entirely to Luc’s fingers in my hair, I stretched out and rose from his lap, letting my fingers drift down his arm until I could haul him after me. “Let’s go to bed.”

“I’ll make myself scarce for the day,” Carter offered.

Luc began to protest. “You don’t—”

“Yes, I do. Sam’s asked to meet with me anyway, and you two need to have a conversation without the big brother roommate hanging around.” He turned his attention to Luc, who I was gripping onto like a lifeline, fists in his shirt and my head on his chest. “Just make sure you let him get some sleep. You’ve worn the poor boy out.”

I was too tired to argue with him.

“I will,” Luc agreed.

I wasn’t even sure how we did it, but we somehow maneuvered ourselves onto the messy twin bed in a way that somehow worked despite the small space. Luc laid on his back, drawing me onto his chest. Our legs weaved together like they just worked, and his wings fell over me like a soft, warm blanket. My eyes widened briefly when something tightened around my leg, but it was only his tail looking for support.

I drifted off to a deep sleep with the sound of his steady heartbeat in my ear.

The next time I woke up, a chill had crept in through the window and slithered under my clothes. I shivered, and Luc’s wings tightened around me instinctively. As warm and comforting as his wings were, they weren’t enough, and I was awake.

My eyes fluttered open and took in the room around me. An overcast sky had stolen the warmth of the sun. Wind whipped the trees around outside of my window, bringing the threat of rain. I shivered again, and pulled myself to sitting. Luc still slept soundly, dark lashes against flawless cheekbones. His dark hair fell into his face and splayed over the pillow, striking against the pale pillowcase. For the first time, I could truly appreciate him without being intimidated by those stunning purple eyes.

And suddenly, he wasn’t so scary.
