My Soul to Keep

Luc’s fingers speared through my hair. “Your thoughts are loud, Tate.”

I sighed. “What if I’m not good enough? You’ll have to live the rest of your life bonded to a pathetic virgin human who only gives you subpar orgasms.”

“What?” Luc laughed. “I don’t think there’s such a thing as a subpar orgasm.”

“I wouldn’t know,” I murmured into his shoulder, the sound turning into a shocked moan as Luc tightened his fist in my hair and tugged until I looked at him.

“How much experience do you think I have?”

I shrugged. “More than me.”

“Tate…” Luc’s fingers scratched my scalp, and I struggled to keep my eyes on his. “Being a virgin isn’t a bad thing.”

I scoffed. “Tell that to literally the whole world.”

Luc’s sleepy eyes met mine, and a smile curled his lips. “Baby, can you just trust me on this one?”

That sent a shiver down my spine, and Luc knew that he had me wrapped around his finger. But I still hesitated on giving him an answer. He could have his pick of anyone on campus. Why me?

Because fate decided that for us…

And then I had to go and get myself involved in a paranormal mating ritual.

As if he could hear my swirling thoughts, Luc kissed my cheek, my neck, tender brushes of his lips until I stopped fighting and nuzzled into his neck, quickly falling asleep once more.

Chapter 14

LUC

Maybe I should have just moved next to the college.

When I wiggled my way into enrollment, I didn’t consider the fact that I’d actually have to study and participate in classes. It wasn’t so bad for the most part, but when I had to leave Tate behind in our nice warm bed because his classes didn’t start for another hour, I began to question my life choices.

I was sitting in the library when motion out of the corner of my eye distracted me—like I’d been actually reading the book in front of me.

“This seat taken?” he asked in a voice so soft that I barely heard him.

I tried to look less grouchy as I shook my head. “Help yourself.”

I thought he just wanted the chair, but he slipped into the seat and dropped his books on the table. “I don’t think you’ll retain any of the information by scowling at the page.”

“Pfft, you ever tried it?”

“Many times, actually. Studying on the road gets difficult.”

I shook my head to clear it. It was only then that I realized who I was talking to. “Tegan, right? We have sociology together.”

“That’s right. So what did that textbook do to you?”

“Exist.”

“So it’s got nothing to do with taking you away from your mate?” Nothing more than the raise of my brow made him continue. “The whole campus is buzzing about that boy jumping you the night of the blood moon.”

I threw my head back and groaned. “Fucking Carter.”

Tegan had similar features to my boyfriend’s infuriating feline roommate, but softer. Maybe it was simply because he didn’t tease me like Carter, or maybe it was the light purple hair and his quiet nature despite being a literal celebrity. He shrugged and opened one of his notebooks. “I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t wishing I’d seen it. Apparently it was quite the show.”

“Says the actor.”
