Love On Time

“I can't believe today is our last full day here and I don't even get to see you till the ceremony.” He sighs.

I pause what I'm doing, my heart sinking to my stomach. He’s right, that thought hadn't even crossed my mind. Today is our last full day here, and we haven't had a conversation about what's going to happen when we leave tomorrow. Sensing my mood shift, Drew sits up from where he is lying and pulls my waist to him.

“What's wrong?” He asks, searching my eyes. “Talk to me.”

“We leave tomorrow… what happens next?” My eyes start to water as the words escape my lips.

“We will talk about it, okay?” He says, pulling me into a hug. “We will figure it out, I promise.”

My body sinks into his as he holds me steady against him.

I make it to the bridesmaids' suite with barely two minutes to spare. I quietly knock on the door, trying to shake off my nerves and put on a happy face. Candace, Ivy’s maid of honor, opens the door, her blonde hair wrapped in hot rollers. All the girls are in matching pink satin pajamas and have gold under-eye patches.

“There you are, we were just talking about you.” She smiles and steps aside so I can enter. “We have your matching pajamas, if you want to change into them.”

“Yes, thank you.” I smile, walking over to where Ivy is sitting on the edge of the bed in her little, frilly white satin robe and her pajamas with a tall mimosa in hand. “Happy wedding day, Ivy!” I say, leaning down to wrap her in a hug.

“Thanks, sis!” She smiles, squeezing me tight. She draws back and narrows her brown eyes at me. “What's different about you?” She questions.

“What?” I chuckle nervously.

“Oh. My. God!” Her eyes brighten. “You guys had sex!” She screams, setting her mimosa down to clap.

“We did not have sex!” I laugh, starting to turn pink. All the bridesmaids turn toward us, eyes wide, clearly expecting to hear all the juicy details.

“We just…made out in the shower,” I whisper, hiding a big smirk forming on my face. Everyone starts screaming and squealing as Ivy climbs to her feet on the bed.

“Naked?!” She squeals, jumping up and down, messing up the perfectly made comforter.

I cover my eyes with my hands, a laugh escaping me. “I mean, we had underwear on, but that was about it.”

“You're having sex tonight!” Ivy points at me excitedly. All the girls giggle, nodding their heads in agreement with the bride.

“I don't know, Ivy, we’ve never gone that far with one another before.”

“Never? Not even when you guys used to date?” Candace asks.

“Nope… unfortunately, it was over between us before we ever got the chance.”

“Eight years of yearning… That’s going to make it ten times hotter.” Ivy winks.

I’m sitting on the edge of the bed, now wearing my pink satin pajamas and the gold eye patches, drinking a mimosa. Everyone is in a great mood, chatting and laughing. The hair and makeup artists have arrived and started working on a few of the girls. Ivy chose to go last, so it's all fresh right before she walks down the aisle. The photographer has come in a few times to snap pictures of the getting-ready process. My mom and Ivy’s mom have been in and out of the room, both busy making sure every last detail is ready.

The hairstylist just finished styling my hair into big, elegant curls, with two hidden pins on each side to keep it from falling in my face all night. The curls make my honey brown highlights look defined and shiny. I’m up next to get my makeup done while Ivy finally sits down to start on her hair.

I’m taking a long sip of my cocktail when there's a loud knock on the door. Candace walks over and opens it, and I hear a familiar male voice. My heart does a little dance in my chest, a small smile forms around the rim of my glass as I take a sip.

“I have a gift for the bride on behalf of the groom.” He says. Just hearing his voice behind the door excites me.

Ivy snaps her head in my direction. “Cami, will you go get that from Drew, please?” She grins. “But make it quick, I want my present!”

I don’t think twice before I jump up from my seat, hustling over to the door. He smiles when his eyes meet mine as I close the door behind us, leaving us alone in the hallway.

“So you're the delivery boy, I see.” I tease, crossing my arms over my chest. He looks me up and down, taking in my pajamas and under-eye patches.

“I volunteered.” He smiles, grabbing me by the waist and pulling me into his arms. I wrap my hands around the back of his neck and draw him into a long kiss.

“Your hair looks great.” He says as we break away. “And I’ve missed you.”
