“You know which one.”
“No.”
Dex is already reaching for his phone.
“What song?” I ask.
“D's fucking anthem for an entire summer.”
Jude groans. “It wasn't his anthem.”
“He played it every damned day.”
“Because he was an asshole.”
“He learned to play it on the fucking ukulele,” Dex adds, and Jude closes his eyes as if he's trying to erase the memory.
“Oh God,” Lily says, laughing through her tears. “I'd forgotten about that thing.”
“How?” Jude asks. “How could anyone forget?”
Cas starts laughing. “Didn't he carry it everywhere for, like, three months?”
“Everywhere,” Jude mutters.
“Oh, I remember!” Grace sits up, biting her lip as she tries to recall something. “He had me and Jace doing the background vocals. What was it again?” Her face lights up. “Oh yeah! Ho! Hey!” She turns to Jace. “Remember?”
Jace breaks into a wide smile. “I fucking do!”
“Jace Hawthorne!” Lily raises an eyebrow.
“Sorry, Mama.”
“Wait.” I stare at them. “Damiano played the ukulele?”
Dex points at me. “He knew one song.”
“He knew more than one,” Jude says.
Dex turns towards him, and Jude realizes his mistake about two seconds too late.
“Ohhh.” Ethan grins. “And how would you know that?”
“Fuck off.”
Dex is laughing now. “Because these two idiots used to sit out here playing together.”
My head snaps towards Jude.
“You played too?”
“Guitar,” he mutters.
“And sang,” Dex adds.
Jude glares at him. “Keep talking and I'll throw you in the lake.”
“You already know every word. Might as well give us a performance.”
