“It’s only a few millimeters,” Cillian adds, as if that makes any difference to them.

“Okay.” Leif pats Björn’s shoulder. “Then you’re a few millimeters uglier than me.”

I burst out laughing and look at Cillian. “Congratulations, you’ve officially traumatized the twins.”

“Is that a bad thing?” Cillian asks me, and I shake my head.

“Everyone ready to leave?” Logan asks, checking his watch.

“Ready.”

I grab my bag along with Cillian’s and follow the team out to the Hummers. “Björn, which one is your ride?”

“Second one, next to the lemon tree.”

“Come on, Cil.”

I load everything into the trunk, double-check our gear, and hold the door open for Cillian.

“Yay! We got Cillian in our car!” Leif cheers as he slides into the front passenger seat while Björn starts the engine.

“Of course we did, bror. I’m driving.”

I climb into the back seat, close the door, and pull Cillian beside me. “Buckle up, Cil.”

“So,” Björn says, turning around in his seat to look at us. “How was cabin duty? Did Knox bore you to death with security protocols?”

“He tried,” Cillian huffs. “I got about fifty no’s a day.”

“Ha! I’m sorry you got the boring Harknett.”

“Björn.” I glare at the fucking Viking. “Shut up and drive.”

“Ooh, excuse me, Miss Rihanna.”

Cillian bursts out laughing, and I glare at him as if he were a traitor.

“Sorry,” he chuckles. “It was very funny…”

“Is it true that you can spot Indiana bats in this forest?” Leif asks, looking out the window.

“My father saw one once, but I haven’t. But I’ve seen bobcats many times.”

“There are bobcats in that forest?!” I stare at him, shocked that he never told me something that could affect his safety.

“It’s very rare to see them, but yeah.”

I think of all the things we did in that forest where my mind wasn’t focused at all… a damn bobcat could’ve eaten us.

CRACK!

Cillian flinches as something hits the door. “Was that a rock?”

“Fuck! Round fired!” I slam my palm against Cillian’s shoulder, shoving his head down toward my lap.

Another bullet hits the bulletproof window on Cillian’s side, and he gasps, clutching my arm.

“Knox…?”
