“Not by hacking, Knox… this was done manually. The stalker is someone with our security access.” Alexios explains. “Fuck!” he gasps. “The Sons of Cerberus are here! Get your weapons right now!”
TAK-TAK-TAK-TAK-TAK!
The sound of machine guns and rifles can be heard outside, followed by screams and people running.
Cillian!
I pull my gun and run.
I don’t give a fuck about the rules, my orders, or the whole fucking island.
Cillian is up there.
And there is no fucking way in hell I’m letting my man die.
CHAPTER 22
KNOX
I sprint for the door, but Logan intercepts me, shoving three radios with their attached wired earpieces into my hand. “For you and the twins. Channel five.”
“Thanks.” I shove the earpiece into my ear, clip the radio to my belt, and take off.
The corridor is fucking chaos.
Smoke drifts up from the lower levels, and debris litters the floor. Thank God we had a contingency plan in place to move all the guests into the gallery, where the walls are reinforced with steel and the glass is bulletproof.
There’s no way the Sons of Cerberus can get inside.
Not in time before we finish them.
I run to the stairs, and I’m a few steps away when a nearby window shatters and two Sons of Cerberus run inside, raising their rifles toward me.
But I’m faster.
I lift my Beretta and double-tap the first man in the chest before he can pull his trigger. The second guy lunges, swinging the barrel of his rifle at my head.
I duck inside his guard, drive my elbow into his ribs, and bury the knife from my boot into his stomach.
The man gasps, collapsing to the floor.
I unhook the assault rifle from his sling, leaving my Beretta in its holster, and charge up the stairs.
My heart is racing, and my mind is a mess.
This is a level of anxiety I’ve never experienced in my entire career. Not back in my Delta Force days, not even when we were hunting terrorists or when I had to disarm a bomb in Peru.
Hell, even my hands are shaking.
I can’t stand this.
Just the thought of losing Cillian… nothing in my entire life has ever terrified me this much.
Dear God…
Please let Cillian be alive.
Please be alive.
