Okay…
Now I see all the fuss with the Harknetts.
Because wow!
Knox runs toward me, his eyes locked on mine, and I feel safe. As if everything will be okay now.
But just as he’s about to reach me, three remaining mercenaries surround him.
I watch from the ground as he fights all three of them at the same time, and it’s both sexy and terrifying.
He really is like a panther.
So damn graceful and beautiful, but also powerful, and if you’re against him, he’s incredibly deadly.
Knox drops to one knee, hits one of the men in the stomach, and stands up, stealing that man’s gun. Then he uses the gun to shoot the second mercenary.
The third mercenary takes out a knife and lifts it toward Knox’s back.
“Knox! Behind you!” I scream, and he turns around in time to catch the man by the arm.
“Fuck!” Julian hisses. He is bleeding a lot, and he is furious.
He grabs the rope tied around my wrists and pulls my body toward the edge of the cliff.
“Knox!” I scream, thrashing with everything I have left.
But I’m too weak now.
I can barely move, let alone escape.
Julian reaches the cliff, slaps me across the face, and smiles. “Say hi to grandpa and Leo for me.”
And with that, he pushes me off the cliff.
As I plunge into empty air, above the sound of the wind and the waves, I swear I hear Knox screaming my name.
Ah, shit…
I’m going to die tied up and drowning.
That is, if my skull doesn’t crack open on the rocks first.
Ugh… what a dumbass way to go.
Honestly, getting shot at sounds cooler right now.
I hit the surface, and the ocean swallows me whole.
Well, no head-on-rocks…
So drowning it is.
My body shivers, both from the cold and the pain of the saltwater getting into my wounds.
As I sink into the depths, I watch the distant moonlight above becoming smaller and smaller.
It looks very pretty.
