“Thank you,” I say, stealing a third mini pecan pie.
“But how are you planning to transport all of it out to the island?” Finnian asks, and I narrow my eyes at him, my eyebrow rising in complete disbelief.
Who said anything about an island?
Yeah… I am not buying his whole “I know nothing” act for a second.
Finnian catches my look and laughs. “Aye, fair enough. I know everything about you. But nothing I know breaks any contract.” He gestures toward Alistair with his thumb. “Ask this bloke. He made damn sure of it.”
“I did.”
I grin, incredibly pleased with this turn of events. Not only am I now certain Knox has been talking about me, but these desserts are going to be a huge hit at our event. “That’s actually perfect,” I say. “Because then this works completely in our favor.”
“It does?” Finnian asks, brow furrowing in confusion.
“Well, now that the legal side is out of the way and you already know about the island… Do you think you could bake some of these to serve as dessert for the auction dinner?”
Finnian’s mouth drops open, and he points a finger at his own chest. “You want to hire us to cater your fancy event?”
“Yes.”
“Are you sure?”
“Oh, my God, yes, we are,” Ellis says, with a mouthful of fruit tart. “You have to feed us more of these thingies!”
“Let us know your price and if you can premake them or need us to get the ingredients for the island,” I tell Finnian, and his unmatched eyes open wide.
“Wait… I’d get to go to the island?”
“Oh, absolutely,” I say, while Leo and Ellis nod beside me. “It’s up to you how you handle it. If you want to bake on-site, you can take your time in the kitchen and then come out to enjoy all the parties. Or, if you’d rather bring everything pre-made, you can just hang back and supervise when the servers need you.”
“For God’s sake, I’m 100% in.”
“Great!” I say, overjoyed. “Would you rather cook on-site or bring everything ready to serve?”
“A bit of both,” Finnian answers. “Some pastries are totally fine brought in the day before, but others are infinitely better made fresh on the spot.”
“Perfect. Then here’s the food timeline we’re working with.” Leo takes out a highlighter and underlines a document. “These five slots will require pastries.” He flips the page and marks an X on each day. “And these are the various parties and events taking place. Go through them so you pack enough clothes.”
True to form, Alistair snatches the paper from Finnian’s hands to review it himself, and helps us settle on a fantastic price. One that Finnian still insists is far too high for us to pay.
Ha! Wait until he sees the tip.
Then, we end up spending hours sitting there, talking and planning. And I don’t know how to explain it, but from the subtle ways Finnian keeps looking at me, I can tell that Knox did talk to him about me.
But whatever Knox told him about me must have been very, very good.
Which only makes me wonder… What exactly did he say?
And most importantly, is Knox sitting somewhere right now, thinking about me the exact same way I’m thinking about him?
Probably not…
CHAPTER 9
KNOX
The taste of Cillian’s mouth is still lingering on my lips, and I don’t know how to make it stop.
