A man near the edge of the crowd turned his head, and I recognized him before I could figure out why the fuck he was there.

It was Kyle Boutte, Kira’s brother. He was staring at me with a sinister smirk on his face. Before I could get to him, he turned and walked away. A barrage of people scattered, and I lost him.

Fuck.

The words bomb and explosion flew through the air, and I could barely focus. People were frantic and I wasn’t even sure if someone had died. My thoughts were all over the place but Kyle was going to pay. Did Kira put him up to this?

I needed to spring into action. Bryce needed me. I checked the Glock at my hip before turning toward my brothers.

“We gotta get around back.”

Quest looked toward the smoke pouring out of the building. People were still coming through the doors, coughing and calling for whoever they had lost in the crowd.

“What about Bryce?” Prime asked.

“That’s where we going.”

I tried calling him while we moved, but he didn’t answer. His text was still the last thing I had heard from him.

I needed him to pick up that fucking phone.

Creed caught up with us near the corner of the building.

“I’m going to the front. I gotta figure out what the fuck happened,” Creed announced.

“Call me as soon as you know something,” I replied.

He nodded toward Riot and Cannon, who were helping a woman get her husband farther from the entrance. The man was bent over, struggling to catch his breath.

“They got out front.”

We kept moving.

Kyle’s smirk was still pissing me off. That nigga had looked right at me while people were running out of my casino terrified. He knew something. I wanted to go after him, but Bryce had asked for help. I had to get to my people first.

We ran past the service road to the employee entrance beside the loading dock. It was the closest door to the money room. Around here, the windows were still intact, and there wasn’t any fire coming through the walls.

I swiped my badge and pulled the door open.

Smoke rolled out, but I could still see down the hall. The blast had been on the other side of the building. This part was standing, although the alarms were loud enough to make it hard to hear Quest right beside me.

“Pull your shirt up,” I told him.

We covered our mouths and headed inside. The sprinklers had already soaked the floor. My boots slid when I rounded the corner, and I caught the wall before I went down.

Cashmere wasn’t doing shit for smoke. My eyes were burning by the time we got to the next door.

“Bryce!” I called.

We passed an employee crouched beside the wall with her hands over her ears. Quest caught her by the elbow and pointed back toward the loading dock.

“Straight down there. Door’s open. Go now,” he directed.

She got up and hurried past us.
