“And tell them what?” he questioned.
“That their girl never came inside.”
“She saw your car. You think she ain’t already telling them why?” He rolled his eyes.
I picked up my phone anyway. I wanted to do something. Standing there while Skye drove off thinking she was smarter than me was making me sick.
“Put the phone down,” he said.
“Don’t tell me what to do.”
“Then call. Tell them to send her back so we can finish the interview. You gon get us arrested, you silly-ass ho.”
Frustrated, I dropped it onto the couch. He was right. In reality, there was nothing stopping her from going to the authorities now. But what would she say to them? It’s not like I had done anything.
“I was supposed to get my hands on her today.”
“Well you fucked that up. She’s small fries anyway. We need to take down the business,” he said as he stared me down.
I had been imagining her in this house for days. I wanted to torture her for what she’d taken from me. I wanted Justice to feel some sort of loss.
If Kyle had gotten carried away before I had my turn, I would’ve been pissed about that, too.
“I’m so pissed.” I rolled my eyes.
“Kira, you wasted my fucking time. This shit is a waste of time. We need to move on from her. ”
“I can’t! She killed that horse and let him think it was me. None of this would’ve happened if she hadn’t killed that horse!”
Kyle leaned against the counter. His beard needed a lineup, and his eyes were red from the weed. He looked tired of me, but I was tired of him acting like I had invented a reason to hate Skye.
“Shit don’t matter right now.”
“You want me to forget what she did?” I blasted at him.
“I want you to remember we ain’t making no money right now.”
“I know that.”
“You talking like all we lost was your boyfriend.”
That shut me up.
He took off his cap and rubbed his head before putting it back on.
“I had a whole business. I had people working for me. Now I got motherfuckas sending me videos of rats with our name on them.”
“I know,” I replied.
“So, I need you to focus.”
“What you want me to do, Kyle? I’m listening.”
He pulled out the chair across from me and sat down.
“You remember me telling you about Will?”
“No. Who is that?”
