I pointed toward the clinic.

“The fuck you doin’, Melody?”

Melody

Underneath the intensity of his gaze I felt every emotion possible. There was rage mixed with elation. There was fear mixed with freedom. I hated and loved him all at the same time.

I wanted to smack the shit out of him with my purse.

How dare he drag me out of that clinic like I belonged to him. Now he was standing in front of me demanding answers as if he hadn't been the one who put me out.

“You weren’t going to tell me?” I could see the hurt and anger behind his eyes.

“Why should I? You threw me out!”

“How the fuck are you gonna make a decision like that without me? I don’t deserve the courtesy of a call?” He asked.

I thought about calling him but I was so upset. And my mind had been mostly focused on my son.

But I sat in that waiting room wishing I had another choice. I kept looking at the door, thinking about leaving, then reminding myself what I would be leaving with. A pregnancy I couldn't afford.

Then his crazy ass showed up and broke the damn door.

“Why the fuck didn't you tell me?”

“When? Before or after you told me to get out of your house?”

“You know I would've wanted to know.”

“I knew you didn't want me there.”

He looked toward the clinic, then back at me.

“That's my baby, Melody.”

“And I'm the one carrying it. You think I wanted to be in there?”

My voice cracked. I looked away before he could see me start crying, but it was too late.

He reached toward me.

“Don't grab me again.”

“Girl…” he pulled me close and held me tightly. “That was fucked up. You should’ve told me."

He glanced at the entrance again. People were still looking out at us. I felt him let me go and I wished he hadn’t. As mad as I was, I wanted to stay in his arms forever.

“There's a café over there. Let's go sit down and talk,” he offered.

I wiped my face and looked where he was pointing. It was a short walk down the block. And it would give us both some time to cool off.

I nodded and walked ahead of him.

I was so relieved he was here that it made me angry all over again. He had hurt me. He had looked me in my face and used Golden against me. Yet when I heard his voice in that waiting room, I wanted to get up and go straight to him.

I had missed him that much.
