“Don’t worry about all that. Just know that I know. Is that one date going to lead to another?”
“Maybe. I don’t know. You two know I’ve been iffy about dating after the last few failed prospects.”
“Heyyyy,” Sevyn sang. “I still think the vet had potential.”
“He had cats, Sev. Five of them. That’s a creep alert.”
“I agree,” Lorren said. “All it’d take is one little thing for my good sis to end up on the First 48. Then I’d have to kill him and I don’t look good in jailhouse orange.”
Sevyn snickered, “You know what, I don’t have time to play with the two of y’all today.”
“We know you don’t, you have another Dallas day lined up,” Avery teased. “What’s on the agenda?”
“I have no idea. He doesn’t tell me much.”
“Well, I say you take today and spin it. You make the plan instead of him.”
“Agreed. It’s the least you can do after that shifty-ass plan you came up with.”
“And speaking of, are you going to tell him about it?”
“First of all, I don’t like how the two of you have gotten into the habit of ganging up on me,” Sevyn drawled. “And second, no. I’m not telling him a damn thing. Who said that I wasn’t still planning on going through with it?”
“Oh, girl,” Lorren laughed. “That was out of the window the minute you called us to fill us in about these dates. Let it go.”
Frowning as if they could see, Sevyn remained silent for a moment before responding. “You bitches are lucky that I need help following through on ideas of things to do for the day or else I’d hang up.”
“You love us,” Avery sang.
“Yeah, whatever. I’d love some suggestions, thank you.”
As Lorren and Avery immediately began firing off ideas, Sevyn placed them on speakerphone, opening her message thread with Dallas.
Sevyn: Good morning
Dallas: Morning, Sev.
Sevyn: No wake-up knock this morning?
Dallas: Not today, mama needed help with something. You miss me?
Smiling, she rolled her eyes while typing up her response.
Sevyn: Boy, get over yourself. Quick question, would you mind switching roles for the day?
Dallas: You breaking the rules?
Sevyn: Sometimes they’re meant to be broken. I’ll text you a time to be at my house.
“Sev!” Avery called, nearly making her jump.
“Hmm?”
“Are you listening to us?”
“Sorry, I was texting Dallas to check if he’s okay with me taking over the day. Now, what did I miss?”
