“For me?”

There was that snort again. “Doubtful. I’m in charge here.”

“And you get the recognition for my hard work.”

“Exactly.”

They stared at each other in silence.

“I guess I owe you thanks,” Vegas said. “Boros was going to kill me.”

“We don’t want Galaxars like that on the station. They’re too much trouble.” Her gaze slid over Vegas’s shoulder. Most of Solan’s clothing was scattered around the lounge. “I see you have company.”

Vegas twisted her hands together, aware of Solan’s scent coating her skin. “About that. I hope it won’t be a problem, me spending time with a Galaxar?”

“You know the rules.”

“I also know you broke the rules by selling me to an alien.” Vegas ignored the twist of panic in her gut as she met Diadora’s glare. “I doubt the Council of Representatives will be happy to hear you’re selling off your star employee to make a profit.”

Diadora’s eyes narrowed, and her cyborg fingers twitched. “That money was not just for me, although I would have skimmed a healthy amount off the top for my services.” Her gaze went back to the clothing. “However, I believe we have an understanding as to what is acceptable when it comes to bending the rules of My Single Alien. Providing you are discreet and don’t go around parading your alien lover to everyone in the company, I will overlook it.”

Vegas kept the smile from her face, despite wanting to punch the air. “Solan isn’t the kind of alien who likes to go parading anywhere. I won’t bring the company’s name into disrepute.”

“You don’t need to be dating a Galaxar to do that.” Diadora smirked. “Besides, if you’re in a relationship with him, it can go toward your new targets. I’m increasing the number of matches you need to make in the next quarter by ten percent.”

Vegas groaned and shook her head. She was being set up for failure. Some things never changed.

“Enjoy the rest of your day. I expect to see you back bright and early tomorrow morning. You have targets to crush.” Diadora turned and walked away.

As the door slid shut, Vegas smiled. Diadora was hard-nosed when it came to business, but she’d shown she had a human side. A twisted, dark, dangerous human side, but it was a start.

As for her new targets, she’d fail; she knew that, but Vegas loved what she did. Matchmaking was what she was great at.

Her gaze drifted to the closed bedroom door. Yep, she was also damn great at making a love match of her own.

Chapter 20

Solan’s chest felt warm as he watched his mate work. Her head was bent over a tablet, and her fingers tugged at her bottom lip. She always seemed so content when processing applications for new potential matches. Vegas thrived on bringing people together, bringing love and hope into the lives of lonely aliens.

Over the last two weeks, he’d spent many hours with her, sampling the delights of her body. When they weren’t naked and sweating, he’d learnt how much she loved her work. He’d never take it away from her.

Solan’s experience of My Single Alien had been unusual. He’d come to meet a different match—a match he’d turned down and who was acing her pilot’s tests and would prove an asset to human space exploration.

He would most likely have been content with the female chosen for him. That was until he’d met Vegas Munro. The second he’d seen her, he knew his life would never be the same again. He was glad of it.

Love was a strange sensation. It still caught him unawares and did strange things to his insides, especially when he caught himself watching Vegas when she slept in his bed, her hair tousled around her face and those beautiful lips parted.

It was a feeling he could get used to. A feeling he was determined to get used to. This was his mate for life. He couldn’t wait to start breeding with her.

But he wouldn’t push Vegas for a squib. Solan had waited years to find Vegas; their squib would come when ready. And, when their squib did arrive, he would be the proudest Galaxar in the galaxy.

His heart raced as he noticed Vegas turn from her conversation with Heather and catch his eye. Her smile only made his heart pound harder. Solan grumbled to himself. He needed to work on controlling his newly discovered love emotion. Vegas only made them worse with her public displays of affection as she called them. His torrid feelings were a distraction. It was a torment he’d put up with, so long as Vegas remained in his life.

Solan strode into her office and wrapped an arm around Vegas’s waist, pressing a kiss to her neck as he did so.

“If Diadora catches you distracting me, she’s not going to be happy.” Vegas squirmed in his grip.

Solan drew in a deep breath of her heady pheromones. She was glad he was here. “I will chase her around the station if she complains.”
