“I’ll go wherever I need to, to make sure Talyn doesn’t do this.” Sinead had no time to consider if this was the right thing to do. It felt right to her. She felt it deep in her bones.

She couldn’t let Talyn go. She would not let him disappear.

Even if she stopped him from doing this and he rejected her, it was time to be honest and not run from her feelings. It was time to save Talyn, and in doing so, maybe herself.

Chapter 18

Talyn shifted in the cockpit seat, and every muscle protested. A groan slid from his lips, and his head throbbed.

“You survived,” Booby said.

“I knew I would.”

“Barely. I’ve been waiting for you to regain consciousness for two hours.”

Talyn blinked slowly, the movement sending shards of pain through his head. “What happened?”

“You passed out on the transport ship. They carried you back to the clinic.”

“Shit.” He ran a hand down his face. “How long was I out?”

“Four hours.”

“Wait! I remember some of it.” Fuzzy memories skidded through his mind, but he couldn’t focus on any of them.

“Let me fill you in.” Booby’s tone was acidic. “Against medical advice, you left as soon as you could walk without falling over. The doctor wanted you to stay overnight, but you refused. You returned here, they helped you into my cockpit, and you passed out again.”

Talyn’s mouth was dry and his tongue coated in a foul residue. “I couldn’t stay. Being so close to Mom was mental torture.”

Booby was silent for a moment. “There’s a message waiting for you.”

“From whom?”

“The clinic.”

“The clinic? Oh, yeah, I wasn’t out the whole time.” The memory wasn’t clear, but Talyn remembered waking for a few moments and messaging the center that offered expunges. “Am I in?”

“Thanks to you offering to double the fee. They’ll see you straight away.”

Talyn sighed. “That’s great.”

“That’s terrible. You have yet to confirm. You can still change your mind.”

Talyn sucked in a breath as he punched in the coordinates to the center. “Tell them I’m on my way.”

“Message sent.”

He collapsed back in his seat. Just that movement was exhausting and painful. “I know you think this is a mistake, but you can’t feel what I do.”

Booby didn’t respond.

“I won’t forget you. At least, I’ll try not to.” Talyn groaned as another blast of sickness inducing pain slammed into his brain.

“Rest. I don’t agree with your choice, but I’ll get you to the clinic.”

“Thanks, Booby. You’re my top girl.” Talyn’s eyes fluttered closed as his mind shut down again.
