Her banty growled again.

Georgia’s top lip curled. “It’s your call. We know what you’re doing, and we’re putting a stop to it right now.”

“Human, put down the weapon and come out before we have no choice but to kill you.”

“How about you put down your weapons and get lost? You’ve still got time to get out of this alive.”

“You’re the one trespassing in our project. You must face the consequences.”

She adjusted her weapon, keeping her focus on the entrance. Sooner or later, some hero would poke his head around the corner and take a lucky shot. “Your project is sick and messed up, and we’re going to stop you.”

“You mean, you and the Apexian we’ve captured?”

Her throat tightened. “What have you done with him?”

“He’s being dealt with. Just as you will be. Although I’m not sure we have space in our program for a human.”

Georgia was too angry to feel fear. “If you hurt Ash, I’ll—”

“You’ll do nothing, other than submit to our will.” The Siblet talking had yet to make an appearance. The second he did, Georgia would kill him. He sounded so smug and sure of himself.

“I’m submitting to no one.” She’d been there and done that. It wasn’t happening ever again. She’d rather die.

“I’m assuming you’re a part of the team poking around in our affairs. I’ve had reports of Apexians and their human playthings interfering.”

“We’re not playthings. We’re here to stop a bunch of assholes taking things that don’t belong to them.”

There was that annoying laugh again. “You’ve done a bad job so far.”

“We’re just getting started. Why don’t you come in here, and I’ll show you what I have planned for you?”

Three Siblet appeared outside the entrance, their weapons raised.

Georgia blasted two of them, before dodging out of the way as a blast skimmed past her head.

She fired several more times, making the Siblet scatter.

Her banty chirped and tweeted in her ear, as if he was encouraging her to blast them into space.

“We can do this for a lot longer than you.”

“I doubt that. I don’t tire easily,” she yelled.

“Maybe you don’t. But your weapon soon will.”

Georgia glanced at the Siblet weapon. There was a light on the side, and it was pulsing red. Damn! She was no expert in Siblet technology, but that was a bad sign.

Three Siblet appeared again. This time, Georgia didn’t fire.

A second later, another Siblet appeared. He was dressed like the others but had a red stripe down one arm, signaling he was the commander of a military unit. He must be the jerk in charge. She couldn’t see his face because of the headgear he wore, but his green eyes shone with anger as they fixed on her.

He stood behind his guards, making sure she couldn’t get a clear shot, and gave a slight shake of his head. “We have no time to waste on a single human. Get rid of her.”

Georgia tensed and aimed the weapon. She may only have a couple of blasts left, but she wasn’t giving up.

There was a rage-filled cry from the corridor, and a Siblet weapon was discharged multiple times. The Siblet scattered, leaving the entrance clear.

The banty alarm chirped and then bounced in the air.
