“I’m doing great. You’re the one I’m worried about.” Cleo rested a hand against his chest. She stroked her fingers lightly across him, sending spikes of heat through him.

“Once I’m healed, we’ll have a lot more of that,” Hunter said.

“We will. Because I believe in you, Hunter. I love you, and I trust you.”

His mouth caught hers, and he pulled her down for a brain blazing kiss. “I love you, too.”

Cleo walked along thecorridor, an odd mix of happiness and anxiety rumbling in her gut. They’d been back on the Apocalypse for twenty-four hours. Her wounds were healing, and Hunter was on the mend, but his injuries were being slow to heal.

But Angel had everything under control, and she was keeping a close eye on Hunter and monitoring his progress. She’d insisted he stay under her observation for a few hours, but then he’d been sent to his room on strict bed rest for two days.

Cleo strode into her room and paced around for a moment.

The silver rodent scurried out from under the couch and hopped on her boot.

“Hey! How are you settling in?” She’d made him a temporary home in one corner, with a cardboard box, litter tray, and a few things to play with.

He scampered up her leg, and she caught him, before giving his healing injuries a quick inspection. “We’ll go visit Hunter soon and see how he’s doing.”

Her door alert pinged, and Cleo strode over and opened it. Hunter stood out there.

She arched an eyebrow, a flicker of excitement running through her. “Are you bored with bed rest already?”

“Of course. You’re not in it.”

Cleo grinned. “I was just thinking about coming to see you. How are you doing?”

Hunter tickled the silver rodent’s head. “Getting there. Angel pumped me full of drugs. I kind of feel like I’m floating some of the time. I’m not used to medical intervention.”

“You almost died. It must have been a shock to the system. Does Angel think that’s why your own healing ability didn’t start up straight away?” She gestured him into the room.

“Yeah, it must have been the reason. I’m back on my feet, and that’s all I care about. How about you?” He reached for her injured side and gently stroked her sore spot.

“Almost a hundred percent better.”

“And your cheek?” Hunter leaned forward to kiss the covered wound.

“I got two more shots of Apexian healing. One from Ash, and another from Striker. There’ll be a scar, but—”

“You’ll be as beautiful as ever.” He kissed her mouth.

Cleo set down the silver rodent, caught hold of Hunter’s hand and led him to the couch, where they both sat.

His fingers danced over her skin, and chills ran through her, swiftly turning warm as he continued to tease.

“That site we found was huge,” Cleo said. “It has to be the Siblet main base. I’ve already got the team working on the data we collected, so we should know more soon.”

Hunter nodded as he kept on stroking her skin. His hot gaze was lasered on her, making her stomach clench with desire.

Cleo shifted in her seat, trying not to be distracted by the hot alien sitting only inches away from her. “We still need to figure out what to do about you.”

“I know what you need to do to me,” he said.

She chuckled. “I mean, you left your troop back on Rowick. You went absent without leave.”

“I’ve already spoken to my lieutenant, and he knows what happened. He even agreed to send a small team to keep an eye on the Siblet and see if they plan on sticking around. Not that there’s much left, thanks to Ash’s explosives. He understands how serious this is.”
