“What’s so funny?” Quinton asked.
“My mom. I tried to call her to check on her and the boys, but I forgot she doesn’t believe in using electronics during bad weather.”
He chuckled. “Sounds like my granddaddy.”
“See, I would expect that from someone old. My mama thinks she’s young.”
“I guess I see where you get being scared of stormy weather from.”
“No one said I was scared,” I challenged.
“Oh, right, you’re just cautious like your mama.”
“Whatever. You think you’re funny.”
“No, I want to know what you need from me. I know you don’t like storms, so now I know to comfort you when there is a storm.”
I had no idea why that made me blush. I tried to play it off by rolling my eyes as I walked past him. Quinton followed me, slapping me on my ass as I headed back to his office.
“I moved your car inside the garage,” he stated.
I turned on my heels to face him. “In this weather? Quinton, you shouldn’t have done that.”
“I should have thought of it before it got so windy. I like to got blown away.”
“Aww, you poor baby,” I said, walking closer and cupping his face so I could give him a quick peck on his lips.
“I was so scared too, baby,” he said, poking out his bottom lip.
I laughed. “Aww, hush.”
“For real. I might need some more coochie to calm me down.”
“Wow, see why I can’t take you serious.”
“I’m just messing with you. I had to say something to lighten the mood. I don’t want you overthinking things.”
“Well, I’m not sure that helped if I did happen to be overthinking.”
“Long as you were in that bathroom, you were definitely beating yourself up about doing something both of our grown asses wanted to do. You’re my girlfriend. You don’t have to feel bad about breaking your ninety-day rule. I’m not going nowhere, beautiful.”
“I never said I had a ninety-day rule.”
“Good, because I couldn’t have made it. I wanted you the second time I saw you.”
“I hope you know I’m not taking you seriously.”
“Why not?” he asked.
“Because I don’t recall anyone asking me to be their girlfriend.”
“You’re right. I didn’t.”
“Just making sure you knew.”
“Where’s your phone? I put mine on the charger while the power is still on. We’ll probably have to be here a little longer.”
“Good idea,” I said, passing my phone to him.
