A Little Bit of Sweetness

“Since when are you ready for bedtime?” I asked his little hating ass.

“I’m not ready for bed. I was going to ask if I can stay up late since I’m playing with my friend.”

“It’ll be a little late, but we’re about to head out. I’m sure Theo has a bedtime too.”

“Me and Theo both are about to get ready for bed,” Shiloh noted.

“Go tell him bye and come right back,” I told my son before turning back to Shiloh.

“See you in the morning?”

She flashed a smile as she nodded. “Bright and early.”

Victor was in bed and knocked out by nine. As much as he fussed about his bedtime, he always went down for the count as soon as he got in bed. Now if I let him stay up and play, he would play all night long. Sometimes on the weekends, I didn’t even bother him. I let him tire himself out naturally. He had school in the morning, though. Neither one of us looked forward to the fight of getting him up after he stayed up late.

Since he was squared away, and I had showered and started to wind down myself, I grabbed a beer out of the refrigerator and picked up my phone to call Shiloh. I wasn’t ashamed that I missed her less than an hour after leaving her house.

“Hello,” she answered after a couple of rings.

Her sleepy voice was so sexy.

“Hey, baby. I missed you.”

“Quinton, you literally just left my house.”

“So you mean to tell me you don’t miss your man?”

She giggled softly. “I actually do. That’s the crazy part.”

“There’s nothing crazy about that. I love being around you.”

“I like being around your crazy self too.”

“I called because I missed you, but I also wanted to remind you that the boys little league sign-ups are this week. Do you have everything together for Theo?”

“I’m pretty sure I do. I have to look over the list again, but I’m not even sure I’ll have time to take him. Isn’t the sign-up on a Saturday morning?”

“What did I tell you about worrying about shit like that?”

“I know, but I have to. I didn’t even tell him about it because I didn’t want to get his hopes up.”

“I’ll pick him up. You just have everything ready.”

“I was gonna see if my mom could take him.”

“Now, you don’t have to. Let your man be your man.”

“OK,” she said, giving in a little easier than I expected her to.

“What are you doing?” I asked.

“Laying in bed, trying to find something to watch.”

“You alone, or are the boys in bed with you?”

“I’m alone. Don’t talk them up. Believe it or not, Trey doesn’t mind sleeping in his own bed, but now and then, Theo finds his way in here with me.”

“I can believe it.”
