“Man, are they.”
I walked over and sat down next to him, and he grabbed my legs and helped me shift until my feet were in his lap.
“Me and my son have been in here reading and playing dinosaurs the whole time. That lady lied. He was not that damn sleepy. He just went down after I gave him a bottle.”
“I’m not going to let him sleep long. He’s getting where he doesn’t want to sleep at bedtime.”
“Sounds like Vick.”
“Yes. Why is his little butt worse than Theo when it comes to bedtime?”
“It’s probably a phase. How does that feel?” he asked, glancing up from his task.
“Perfect. The first thing I usually do when I get home is put my feet up.”
I closed my eyes as he massaged my feet. I woke up to Quinton placing kisses all over my face. My eyes opened slowly. I felt so relaxed watching a slow smile lift his cheeks.
“Wake up, sleepyhead.”
“I didn’t even know I was sleep. How long have I been out?”
“Only about thirty minutes. I wanted to let you rest longer, but I wasn’t sure they would let me pick Theo up from school. Plus, I wanted to beat the crowd to the little league sign-ups.”
I sat up straight, looking around the room, and spotted Trey playing with soft blocks in the playpen. Quinton laughed, making me turn my attention to him.
“Relax, baby. We have plenty of time. You ready?”
“Yeah. It took a second for me to remember where the hell I was.”
“I see. Come on. Let’s go get our boys. I told Vick I would take him to his favorite fried chicken spot for dinner. Y’all might as well join us.”
I nodded. “Sounds good.”
There was no use in protesting any longer. I was crazy about the man, and apparently, he felt the same about me. My only hope was if the bottom fell out, it happened while I was still close enough to the ground to recover.

“Vick has two controllers to his game, even though he said he mostly plays by his self. I’m still gonna take my other game ’cause he don’t have this one. You said I can take it, right, Mama?”
“Yes. You can take it with you; just don’t forget it over there.”
“I’m not. This is my favorite one. Then I got my drinks, my cookies, and my sour candy. I don’t know what kind of candy Vick likes. He had some hot chips. I mostly don’t like hot stuff. Why you putting that stuff on your eyes? You must be going somewhere fancy?”
“I don’t know where I’m going. I just want to look nice,” I told him.
“Why you want to look nice? I thought you was going somewhere with Victor’s dad.”
“I always want to look nice.”
“Not with the eye stuff though.”
“Well, tonight, I wanted to look extra nice, I guess.”
“Do you like Victor’s dad? I think he likes you. He called you baby and kept hugging all on you when we were at his house.”
“How do you feel about that?” I quizzed.
