When he saw me, Quinton jumped a little, startled by my presence at the door.
“You gon’ mess around and give a nigga a heart attack.”
“I’m sorry. I was just watching.”
“My guy was cursing your ass out for sleeping too late, so I got up and fed him. Then he had a blowout, so I cleaned him up.”
“Dang, how long have I been sleep?”
“It was nine thirty the last time I looked at the clock.”
“No wonder he was mad.”
“I got him together though. Teamwork makes the dream work.”
“Thank you, baby. You hungry?”
“Hell yeah, I was about to make breakfast.”
“I got it. You just keep Trey entertained while I put it together.”
“I can do that. He loves spending time with daddy.”
“Mommy does too.” I winked.
Quinton slapped me on my ass, making me squeal as I made my way to the kitchen.
“We’re not about to be watching all of them singing shows you like. You ever heard of anime, Lil’ Q?”
With Quinton and Trey out of the way, I made sausage, eggs, and loaded hashbrowns before serving Quinton in the living room. Even though my baby had already eaten, Quinton kept him in his lap, feeding him tiny bites of eggs.
I shook my head. “He’s already greedy enough.”
“You hear mommy calling my baby fat?”
“I didn’t call him fat, but he is. My arms are always sore from carrying his big butt around.”
“That’s why you got a big, strong daddy.”
“Mommy likes having a big, strong daddy too,” I added.
We finished eating while Quinton and Trey watched some crazy show where they were arguing and doing martial arts the entire time. I cleared our plates and came back to cuddle up with my boys on the couch. Quinton looked right at home with Trey on his chest and me lying on his lap.
“I just need my other two boys in the back fussing about a game and Amber standing in front of me with her hand out for money, and my family will be complete.”
I smiled at the thought, although I still wasn’t so sure how Victor would adjust.
“Sounds good enough.”
“I never told you, but one day at practice, Theo asked me to be his dad.”
His revelation made my heart hurt. I pushed up on one hand so I could see his face. “Really?”
“Yeah, I didn’t know if he wanted me to tell you. He was so nervous about it, but I told him that I would be honored. Shiloh, I love these boys. That’s why it came out of left field when Victor snapped at you. I was so busy worrying about fitting into your family that I didn’t think about how you would fit into mine. I just figured he would love having a woman around since he didn’t have his own mom. I really am sorry, baby.”
“Quint, I don’t think that’s your fault. It’s an adjustment for all of us. Like you said, the situation with his mom is confusing. He told me you two were getting back together.”
“I heard him.” Quinton scoffed.
