But I don’t get to stare for long. He pulls my legs up and pushes into me. I’m so ready that he slides right in, topping out in one hard stroke.

“Yes,” I moan.

This is it. This is what feeling complete feels like. With Garrett deep inside me, I’m whole.

He leans down, his chest pushing against the back of my legs, opening me even more as he thrusts into me over and over again.

I grab his ass and dig my nails in. I need him like I’ve never needed anything in my life. I pull on him as he pushes into me, his hips moving faster and faster as he fucks me into the mattress.

“I love you,” I say, my voice coming out all squeaky.

He smirks. “Yes. You. Do.” He says each word with a thrust, pushing harder and harder.

I come again, this time screaming his name, and a few strokes later, he’s pushing deep and letting out a roar of his own as he unloads inside me.

He doesn’t come out an inch until he’s completely spent. He never does. This is our favorite part, when he gives me all he has.

Keeping his hips locked against mine, he brings my legs down to settle around his waist, and lies on top of me, using his forearms to hold himself up.

I’m so much shorter than him that, in this position, all I see is the top of his chest. He turns us over until I’m on top, and I rest my head down on his chest as he slowly caresses my back.

“Now, explain to me how Ethan leaving Amelia has anything to do with us?” he says, his voice getting harsh again.

It doesn’t and I know it. But it was the same thing when Wyatt died. For months, any time Garrett was a minute late coming home, I would imagine losing him. He found me in tears more than once.

And I can tell I upset him now. And apparently, the orgasm only postponed the conversation, he didn’t forget.

“Amelia says she never saw it coming,” I explain. “It scares me that something could be happening with you, and I could have no idea.”

“Come on! You don’t really believe her, do you? I mean, we saw it coming.”

I shrug. “Everyone has their blind spots.”

“They fought all the time. And when they weren’t fighting, they were ignoring each other. I’m not saying Amelia is lying. But maybe she’s too hurt right now to admit the truth to herself.”

“What truth?”

“Ethan did them both a favor by leaving.”

I raise my head to scowl at him.

“You know I don’t like the way he did it any more than you do," he says. "The whole thing with Charlotte was inexcusable. But the reality is they were not good together. And you know it. We’ve had this conversation hundreds of times after hanging out with them. And if Amelia really doesn’t see that, then it means she doesn’t even know that there’s better out there. When she finds someone better, she’ll be thanking him for ending a relationship that was making her miserable.”

“Thanking him might be taking it too far. What if she doesn’t find anyone else?”

“She’ll still be better off on her own than married and unhappy.”

“And Chase?”

“I don’t know. I don’t know how Ethan can justify putting a kid through that. But… on the other hand, we hated hearing them fight the couple of times a month that we hung out with them. Imagine having to put up with it every day.”

I take a deep breath and breathe in Garrett’s smell. And let it calm me.

He’s still inside me but getting softer. I know we have to get up eventually, but right now I don’t want to.

“So? Tell me again in what way we’re anything like them?”

“In no way,” I agree. “I love you.”
