“Have you agreed what to do with the rest of your assets?” Stewart asks, putting another copy of the contract in front of me.
“We’re splitting all our savings in half,” I explain.
We finish signing, and Ethan and I walk out together.
“What's up with you?” Ethan asks as I’m about to say goodbye.
“Nothing.”
But I can feel anger begin to churn in my belly. Ethan just has that effect on me.
“You’re smiling a lot.”
“What? I’m not allowed to smile? You hate me that much that you want me to stay miserable forever?”
My voice comes out louder than I meant it to, and Ethan looks around the street, probably to make sure no one is listening.
“I don’t hate you,” he says, keeping his voice low. “And you’re allowed to be happy. I was just… concerned. I just… wanted to know what’s going on with you.”
I rub my thighs together. Sore.
“Well, Ethan.” I lift up my copy of the contract and point to it. “You’ve lost the right to know what’s going on with me. Goodbye.”

I’m dying to ask Ethan how his meeting with Amelia went. Heck, I’d rather hear it from her, but she’s with Chase and I don’t want to take away from her limited time with her son.
But I don’t ask Ethan either. He’s got a frown on his face all through practice, and he’s more distracted now than when he asked Amelia for a divorce.
“Come on, Ethan,” Garrett nags at the end of practice. “Get your head straightened out. We have a game Sunday.”
Ethan slams his locker shut. “Fuck off, Garrett, there are more important things than amateur baseball!”
“Like what?” Bryce asks.
My belly clenches. Did something new happen between him and Amelia? “Yeah, what’s up?”
He looks behind him, making sure it’s just the five of us—Ethan, Garrett, Luke, Bryce and I—in the locker room.
“I think someone’s fucking my wife.”
My heart skips a beat.
“Amelia’s your wife now?” Bryce mumbles under his breath, but I don’t think Ethan hears him over the sound of Garrett laughing.
“Come on! What proof do you have?”
“I don’t have any proof,” Ethan answers. “But she was smiling all through our meeting today. I know something’s up.”
“Why do you care?” Luke says. “You have Charlotte.”
“I don’t care. But the divorce isn’t even final. It has to be someone in town. I just want to know who’s the coward who’s going behind my back.”
Garrett puts the rest of his baseball uniform into his locker before closing it. “I don’t know. It’s a small town. Who could she possibly have moved on to?”
Ethan crosses his arms over his chest. “I think it’s Stewart. You should have seen the way he was staring at her today. It was disgusting.”
Bryce narrows his eyes at me, judging me.
