Atom: Hounds of the Reaper

“Think this has something to do with the sister?” King asks, side-eyeing me.

I stand. “I’ll find out.” No one stops me as I leave.

When I make it to the basement, Mad Max opens the door he was guarding, and I see her. Reina, tearstained and sitting on a stool like a broken doll.

But it’s an act. It’s all an act.

I saw through her the minute I met her.

She preys on the weak-minded, getting the prospects and men not smart enough to see through her to do her bidding. The only reason she got herself in here was that she did what her stepsister claimed—she spread her legs. Often. A month of constantly fucking a brother will get you invited to a family event. Especially if that brother thinks it’s something more than a fling.

Maybe I should feel bad for the poor sap she hustled along. But I don’t.

King confirmed that money was missing. The fucking brother who was sleeping with her is getting his ass beat right now for it. He might not have had anything to do with it, but maybe now he’ll have enough brains to not bring randos into the club, giving them access to shit that they shouldn’t have access to.

Reina was already flagged by the club. We knew not to trust her completely, but till she fucked up, we just watched. The face scanners we have that cover everyone who comes here picked up nothing. Just like with Natalie. But we already knew they would come back with nothing. Natalie’s life is a sealed coffin—nothing came in or out of it that we could find. And Gator and Flint looked. We got some stuff, enough to get Reina’s attention to come searching for her sister, but nothing for us to really know who she was.

“Why are you doing this to me? I’ve done nothing.” She sniffs, wiping her nose with a single finger, as if it makes her look sophisticated. She still has snot on her.

“Drop the act.” I pull a chair over from the wall, turn it around, and straddle it. “We looked into your account. We’re already pulling our money out, and some more for the inconvenience.”

Just like that, the tears dry up, and a sneer appears on her face. The woman even goes so far as to turn her nose up and look down at me.

I smirk. Gotcha, bitch. The boys haven’t run everything, but there’s enough to know Natalie was telling the truth.

Not that I doubted her. She isn’t the type to make something up for a story. Not like the woman in front of me.

“What do you want?” she asks.

“Lots of things. I doubt you can give them to me.”

She rolls her eyes as if she doubts me.

“I can give you a lot of things.”

“Oh yeah? Like what?” I raise an eyebrow, not that I give a damn about what she can give me.

“Money.”

“Got money.”

“Women.”

I look her over with an open sneer. If she thinks I’m interested in her type, she’s dead wrong. “Got a girl.”

“Power.”

Ding ding ding. We have a winner. Something the boys upstairs will be very curious to learn about. Not that the Hounds need it, but we like to know who has it and who will part with it.

I tilt my head. “Tell me how.”

“My family is very connected. Let me go, and I’ll make sure you’re connected too.”

“What makes you think I don’t already have connections?”

“Oh please. You play in this small town. I play globally. And if you let me go now, you can keep the money, and I’ll make sure my family knows it was you who let me go.”

“Hmm.” I lean back as I cross my arms over the top of the chair. “So you’re planning to tell your family? What exactly will you say? That you stole from us? That you ran away from your husband? Or that you found your sister?”
