The Pulse Within Her

“Tell you what?”

“You knew her. This whole time, you knew what happened to her. And you knew I didn’t.”

I pause, keeping my hold on her, but trying to understand if she’s saying what I think she is. It’s written across her face though. Somehow, she knows about her mom. And based on the fire in her eyes, she blames me.

This is a game we can both play.

“If you think you know so much, then you’ll know why I can’t stand you. Why I hunted you for years.”

Her eyes widen. More than fury now, she wears a look of shock and betrayal. “Am I… Am I here because of you?”

I release Sumner from my grip, not particularly liking the hurt in her eyes.

“You are,” I say, turning around and pacing forward several steps. “I needed you here. Needed you to pay.”

The padding of her feet sounds across the floor. I feel her behind me, hear her breath. It’s the pulse within her that gives her away, though. I know that beat. Sumner is mad, and she intends to hurt me.

Turning, I find her less than a foot away, eyes narrowed and mouth set in a hard line. It’s the shiny blade in her hand that holds my focus. The very knife I keep in the top shelf of my dresser. She must have grabbed and hid it before I entered the room.

It isn’t hidden now.

“You needed me to pay?” she asks, the threat of tears in her voice. “Everything I’ve ever cared about is a world away. You took my life. My mother’s life.” She steps closer, bringing the steel to my throat. I hold eye contact with her. Daring her.

A watched pot never boils, just as a stubborn Sumner never bows. It’s one of the things I admire most about her. No matter how unmatched she is, she always fights back.

“I did nothing to your mother. You, though, I wanted nothing more than to see you fall. I wanted you to hurt. Because you took everything from me, Vix.”

“You’re insane.”

“You are right about that,” I tell her. “No sane man would hold as much animosity for you as I do, and still want nothing more than to have you as close as you are right now.”

Her breathing catches, and I don’t miss the slight dilation of her pupils.

The tip of the blade digs deeper into my neck. I feel a well of warm blood pool at the surface of the small puncture site. Her multicolored eyes travel from mine, to the cut, then to my mouth. The flame sparking through those perfect orbs, the chill of the blade against my skin, the grip of her delicate fingers, it’s enough to make my dick swell.

That’s always the effect she’s had on me. Beautiful and tempting. Fierce and oh so wrong. This creature was made solely for me. Her fight, her drive, she pushes me over the edge. I just never expected I’d enjoy the fall. Long for it, even.

The sight of my Vixen so incredibly angry, so entirely heated, brings a rush of different images through me. All of them end with her legs wrapped around my waist.

She drops the knife. It clangs against the floor between us.

Sumner leans into me, pressing her lips against mine, then pulls away, hitting me in the chest with her palms.

She’s cute when she’s angry.

I reach for her, grabbing her shoulders and pinning her right back into the wall. “The human wants to play.”

“Fuck you,” she chokes.

My hands fall to the backs of her thighs, lifting her off the ground. “I’ll let you have the honor.” Those long legs do exactly as I need, tightening around me.

Our mouths reconnect, hungry and messy. I carry her to the bed, dropping her down onto it.

My sweats take way too long to get off. Getting to watch while she lifts her shirt over her head makes the time spent entirely worth it. Sumner isn’t hot. She was always more than that. Sumner is fucking beautiful.

A pair of mouthwatering breasts stare back at me, begging for my attention. They’ll get it, but she comes first.

I climb over top of her, needing the taste of her kiss. Her hands find my cock, each delicate finger wrapping around me.
