Harry kissed his way up my body, his mouth finally meeting mine again at the same time he thrust inside me to the hilt. We both groaned at the perfect stretch of him buried inside me.

One of his hands came up to hold my wrists again, while the other held him up as he picked up his rhythm, his gaze never leaving my face. This was like nothing I’d ever experienced before. This wasn’t just sex.

It was something else entirely and I was only sure of one thing.

I was his.

I clenched my inner muscles, and his rhythm wavered as his eyes fluttered and his forehead dropped to mine.

“Sam.” His voice was ragged, but he still managed to make my name sound like a prayer.

Our gazes stayed locked on each other as our bodies did all the talking, coming together again and again, our pleasure reaching new heights I didn’t think either of us had ever experienced before.

And then blinding pleasure ripped through me again and I screamed his name. His hips stuttered and with one more thrust, he buried his head into my shoulder as his whole body shook with his release.

After a moment, he shifted to his side and pulled me against him. My head found his chest, his arm wrapped around me, and the room was quiet except for our breathing settling back to normal.

“I love you so much,” I whispered, glancing up at him.

His gray eyes shone with so much adoration that I still didn’t feel completely worthy of. “I love you too.”

“Please don’t ever leave me.” I hated even saying it. It made me feel weak to need someone as much as I needed him, but it was the truth. Him leaving me was now my greatest fear.

He shook his head. “No chance. You’re stuck with me for life.”

“For life, huh? That sounds like a proposal.”

The corner of his mouth lifted slightly. “If I thought you’d say yes right now, it would be.”

I sucked in a breath. Did he really mean that?

He brushed my hair away from my face. “You are the greatest gift I’ve ever been given, and I promise to treasure you always. And someday, I’ll get down on one knee and make it official.”

What had I ever done to deserve his devotion?

Whatever it was, I wasn’t going to take it for granted. I snuggled into his chest, holding him tight.

TWENTY-SIX

Foster was waiting at baggage claim, and I’d never been so happy to see a familiar face.

I’d texted him the Cliff Notes version of what had gone down while we were waiting for our flight in Seattle, so I wasn’t surprised when he flicked his glance to Sam and arched a brow. She was looking down at her phone and hadn’t noticed him yet. I gave him a look that said she’d be okay. It was probably going to be a bumpy road, but I had no doubt all of us would rally around her and give her more love than her parents could ever dream of.

Sam finally glanced up from her phone and spotted Foster. “Hey.”

He pulled her into a one-armed hug and held on for a beat longer than usual. “Hey. Abby’s back at the apartment, but she gave me clear instructions to make sure you knew the hug was from her.” His face lit up when he said Abby’s name like the lovesick guy he was.

But I got it. I couldn’t deny I was a bit lovesick myself.

“Merry Christmas Eve,” he said, moving to me and giving me a pat on the back.

“Thanks for coming to get us.”

“Of course! Abby’s got dinner going now, or else she would’ve been here too.”

We grabbed our bags and followed Foster through the automatic doors to his truck in the parking lot. The frigid Missoula air hit us the second we stepped outside, and even though it was freezing, there was something so refreshing about Montana air. It was crisp, whereas the air in Seattle had just felt heavy.

Sam tilted her face toward the sky and closed her eyes for a second. She didn’t say anything, but she didn’t need to. Her shoulders dropped as all the tension she’d carried in Seattle was swept away. Montana was her real home now.
