The Death of Sunday

“But … can’t we do that with your face between my thighs?”

He runs his hand across his mouth, and now I drop the covers. He greedily takes in my breasts, gripping his jaw. “As much as I’d love to spend the rest of the weekend eating you out, we have to go over our story.”

I tut. “Ever heard of multitasking?”

He gives me a small smirk before going into the bathroom. I wrap the blanket around myself, squeezing my thighs together as I follow him. “I’m about to be in his office, I could try for the phone again.”

He steps into the shower and turns on the water. I take a moment to admire the firmness of his ass and the muscles shifting beneath the detailed tattoos on his back.

“It’s not worth the risk, Sun. Not after what happened earlier.”

“I could at least try,” I say, leaning my hip against the sink.

Cole turns to look at me, his gaze drifting down the blanket to my bare legs. He wets his lips. “Come here.”

“Why? I thought we were preparing.”

His smirk would drop my panties if I were wearing any. “Get your ass over here, Sunday.”

Discarding the blanket, I step into the shower. He pulls me close and kisses me, sighing softly against my lips. “I asked you to marry me.”

I nod slowly. “Yes, you did. Are you regretting it now you’ve got post-cum clarity?”

“No.” His smile is small. “Are you?”

I wince. “Maybe a little. After all, I have no idea who you are anymore. And your work—”

“I’ll quit.” I gape up at him, blinking a few times. “Nothing is more important than you, Sunday. I’m sorry I let you believe anything ever was. I’ve put in my time. I’ll quit. We’ll start a life together and … how about you agree to marry me, but until then, we date.”

I smile, pressing my naked body to his. “Isn’t that doing things the wrong way around?”

“We’ve never exactly had a conventional relationship.” He cups my cheek. “So, what do you say, Sunday? Will you go on a date with me?”

A date with Cole Knox. It’s been a long time since that’s happened, but I’ve replayed so many of our moments over the years that the prospect excites me. Hand holding. Conversation. Long rides on his bike.

What do I have to lose?

He could break my heart all over again.

“I want to trust you. I do.” My chest is tight as I say the words, but I vowed never to put my heart at risk again, especially not with the same man who broke it in the first place. “And I would love to go on a date with you, and one way or another, I’m marrying you. But once we’re out of here, we have a long talk first. No more secrets.”

He nods. “Deal. Now I’m soaping you up before we have to leave.” I laugh, and he sweeps his tongue across his bottom lip as he foams up his hands and rubs my breasts, squeezing them gently. I moan, leaning into him, pleasure spreading between my legs as he tweaks my nipples.

“Kneel,” he says, his voice low and thick with need. “I’ve missed watching your tongue play with my piercings.” I do as he asks. His cock is already hard, the tip sweet as I suck and lick it. “Look how pretty my wife looks on her knees with her mouth full.” I almost purr at the words before swallowing him whole. “Holy fucking—”

After Cole comes down my throat, we finish our shower and dress. I’m jittery, flexing my fingers to work warmth into them, and finish strapping my shoes just as I notice Cole slip something into his pocket.

I stand and adjust the dress, one of many that Darcy dropped off this morning. The top is fitted and strapless, the bottom flowing and reaching my ankles. It’s a stunning shade of green and probably costs more than my car. “What was that?”

“What?” I nod at his pocket, and he pulls out something that unlocks a memory I forgot existed. Closing the space between us, I smile.

“You still have this?”

He hands me the lighter. The engraved motorcycle on the back is faded, and the metal is scratched to death, but that’s unsurprising given how old it is.

Flicking open the lid, I drag my thumb over the cog, and the flame bursts to life.

“I can’t believe you kept it.”
