He kissed his way down my belly, dipping his tongue into my navel. “I may have imagined the terrain a few dozen times. Ah, at last, we’ve found it. The Mare Nectaris.” He pushed my legs open. “The planet’s true treasure.”

His tongue was on me, flattened against my clit, leisurely exploring every delicate fold. He took his time, bringing me to the peak and then backing off, so that when I finally found my release, I did see stars.

Chapter 26

Diana

At some point during the night, we must have fallen asleep because I awoke to full sunlight spilling onto the bed. I lay there listening to the chorus of birds outside the window, enjoying the weight of Levi’s arm draped across my waist.

This wasn’t a dream. He was here. Turning in his embrace, I studied him in the golden light. He was so beautiful. More beautiful than any man had a right to be.

I traced a finger up his chest, tangling in the patch of hair on his pecs, and over his collarbone, exploring the dip in his neck, the skin there so soft I wanted to nuzzle it. I continued up his stubble-covered jaw and over the cleft in his chin. There was the beginning of a frown line between his eyebrows, and I smoothed over it, thinking of all that had happened to him to put it there. We still hadn’t talked about his grief, but after all we’d shared physically last night, I was hopeful that he’d finally open up to me.

As my fingers traced a path down the bridge of his nose to his lower lip, he grabbed my arm, nipping at my finger. He growled and flipped me over on my back, and I squealed as he buried his mouth into my neck.

“I thought you were sleeping!”

“Only pretending so that you’d keep fondling me,” he replied and then gave me the sweetest kiss on my lips, pulling back onto his elbows before I could completely fall into it. His eyes had never been so blue, almost electric in the morning light. I stroked his cheek and he turned his face to my palm, kissing it.

It was daytime. Reality had set in. Would he regret what we’d done? Part of me worried that if I closed my eyes he’d disappear and I’d find myself alone in this enormous bed.

When he leaned back on one elbow so that the light from the window poured over my body my first instinct was to cover myself. After all, yesterday we’d done everything in the half light of the moon. In the daylight, I was suddenly so vulnerable.

“Hey, no fair,” Levi complained. “I let you study me. I’ve been waiting for this moment for years, Indy. Let me enjoy it.”

“Years?” I asked, reluctantly loosening my arms and moving them down to rest at my side, gasping a little as his fingertips feathered over my rib cage and breast. “I don’t believe you.”

“Just as well. You might have been offended by the fantasies that were constantly floating around in my adolescent brain.”

My mind still couldn’t wrap around this information, and I wasn’t sure I believed him.

“I’ve always loved this freckle. I caught sight of it once when you were wearing that tiny yellow bikini and couldn’t stop thinking about it for weeks.” He lowered his mouth to the freckle on the outside of my left breast. “I wondered if you had any others in interesting places.”

His head continued its movement south and my pulse thrummed everywhere. “Didn’t you do enough exploring last night?” I laughed, weaving my fingers through his messy hair and tugging a little. He liked it a little rough, I could tell from the appreciative growl he let out.

“Never. I’m making up for years of missed opportunities. Today I’m on a mission to find out just how much of you is pink.”

“Pink?” I gasped as his lips found my nipple.

“Mm-hmm,” he moaned appreciatively before moving to the other breast. “More pink.”

His hand ran between my thighs, spreading them open. “And this . . .”

A violent knock on the door made both of us jump. “D, you in there? Signore Visconti is waiting for you.”

“Oh no, what time is it?” I shoved Levi away and squinted at the clock on the bedside table. “Ten a.m.! Tell him I’m coming!”

I rushed to the bathroom where I hastily pinned up my sex-rumpled hair, brushed my teeth, and jumped in the shower. Levi ambled in. “Want me to wash your back?”

“No time.” I turned off the water, and he tossed me a towel.

I grabbed a pair of black pants and a black turtleneck, hopping around to put my boots on while Levi leaned against the doorframe completely naked and unbothered.

“Are you trying to distract me with this?” I waved my hand at his nakedness. “Where did I put my blazer?”

It was right in front of me, but I was so flustered I hadn’t seen it. I wrapped a vintage scarf around my neck in a last-ditch effort to look elegant and professional. I darted past Levi and he grabbed my wrist, pulling me hard against his naked body for a deeply distracting kiss.

“What’s that for?”
