So Below As Above

“You still love her.”

The man goes quiet.

“And I want her dead, but I can’t really do that. Well—not right after what I did recently.” Daisy runs her fingers through the man’s hair, but he catches her by the wrists, stopping her.

“You’re fucking another man. I think you’ll be fine if I think about her or not.” His tone is laced with disdain.

“What do you say about pushing up our wedding soon? I hear we’ll have the house back by the end of this year.”

The man straightens into the light, and Kieran steps forth, advancing menacingly toward Daisy.

My breath catches.

“What about her? She still owns it.” Kieran grabs Daisy by the waist.

I shouldn’t be able to see this. Is this a memory or someone else’s?

“Her parents are dead.” Daisy pushes Kieran away lightly, then twirls once and throws herself on the bed. There’s a clump of mass below the sheets, unmoving.

Whose parents? Sara’s?

“Did you…do something?” Kieran rushes to the bed and roughly snatches her up by her shoulders.

“Give it a few weeks, she’ll be back begging for company. I hear her and Ash aren’t doing so well either.” Daisy hums.

“You’re out of your fucking mind!” Kieran paces back and forth, then settles by the window. So close I can make out the deep frown on his face. Moonlight highlights his abyssal blue eyes. What is he thinking?

“Ask me how I know this.” Daisy inspects her nails.

Kieran walks back to her; his lips are set into a grim line. “How?”

He runs a hand down his face and plops on the bed beside her.

“I get around. Now let’s aim for the summer after graduation?”

Kieran doesn’t answer, only sits with his head in his hands. She whispers something in his ears and he pushes her away.

“Don’t forget our marriage would only be a business deal. Nothing more,” he says.

Their gazes lock in fiery defiance. Both appear to be hiding something beneath the surface.

“Don’t forget I’m the one who funds your experiments. Without me, you’re nothing.” Daisy twirls a piece of hair between her fingers. “And…I have a copy of everything.”

Kieran clenches his jaw so roughly I can hear the gnash of molars.

“You look so sad, darling demon. Didn’t you want your secret portal? God knows I paid so much for that stupid necklace.” Her lips purse, eyes gleaming wickedly.

Without warning, the scene ripples and disappears, replacing the terse exchange with pressing darkness.

“No! Don’t leave me in the dark.”

Misty barks somewhere in the distance.

What had Kieran and Daisy planned for Sara Wren? And why would a woman simply want another woman dead?

“What if I told you down here, I could show you every little lie they’ve built. Your soul can travel beyond time…beyond everything.” My own voice echoes back at me.

“What do you want from me?” I ask, hands clenched at my sides.
