I turn all the way around to see if he’s talking to someone else. Since I seem to be the only one paying attention to him, I assume he’s talking to me.

“I’m sorry, did you say you need some money?” “Yeah.”

“As in the green stuff you use to purchase products, pay bills, and throw at strippers?” Rayne’s head droops. “Sis, come on and stop playing. You got me or what?”

“Um, hypothetically, how much of this thing called money do you expect your brother’s wife to give you?”

“At least twelve G’s.”

“I really hope G’s is short for group of Quarters. Because if not, you’re about to be really disappointed. Because never are you asking me, your brother’s wife, to hand you that type of money to get out of town. You must want both of us dead. Because if Damien finds out…”

He cuts me off in a flash.

“Dame can’t find out, sis. That’s the thing. Look, I know y’all balling. I just need your help and you’ll never hear from me again. I promise.”

I take a second to look back at Dime, who hasn’t taken her eyes off Rayne since we walked outside. I’ve seen that look before. Usually, it’s a look preceding her doing something crazy. Naked. I try to ignore it, focusing back on my brother in-law.

“Rayne,” my hands are pressed together, “You are a very strange individual. I just have to say that now. I can’t go behind my man’s back and give you money. No matter the amount. Especially knowing that you two are having some type of dispute. So, I need you to take my advice, okay? Advice is free ninety nine. Listen very carefully to me,” I place my hands on his shoulders, “You are a grown ass man. Please do us all a favor and grow the fuck up already. Stop blaming everyone for your problems.”

“Fuck. You sound just like the rest of them.”

“Well, I guess that makes me family after all, huh?” “So, what am I supposed to do?”

“I don’t know. But I’ll tell you what I can do for you. I hear you’re at some hotel, right?”

“Yeah. until tomorrow morning, and then I’m right back to being fucked again.”

“Okay, well, I can’t do anything about that. But what I can do is make sure you eat something. You look like you’re starving. I’ll have one of my girls bring you some free food. Go wait in your car.”

He sucks his teeth in protest. “Mannnn…” “Do you want the wings or not, nigga?”

“Wings?” his eyes suddenly grow large, “Oh no, I’ll take the wings.”

“I thought so. Go wait in your car. Give me ten minutes.”

Dime watches him walk off, lust in her eyes. I have to snap my fingers to even get the whore’s attention.

“Hey. Are you still with me?”

She nods slowly, pointing in his direction. “Yeah, um, that’s your brother in-law?”

“No, Dime, it’s Triple H. Yes, it’s my whacky ass brother in-law.”

“Does he need a place to stay or something?”

I shoot her an evil look, turning her body completely towards me. “Dime, look at me.”

She looks me right in the eyes, while hers are still glazed like fresh doughnuts from Dunkin. I sound like a grade school teacher scolding her.

“No. N-O. Hell no. Fuck no. Shit no. Got it?”

Dime pretends to be appalled by my comments, pressing her hands against those always bouncing Double D’s.

“Wow, I was just asking, sis. Damn.”

Yeah, okay. And Micheal Myers never wanted to kill anyone. He just tripped a lot with the knife in his hands.

“Come on now. I know you, sis. That’s your type. Trust me. He’s the last nigga you need to be involving yourself with. Understood?”
