“Why are you looking crazy as fuck? What’s going on with y’all?”
“She bagging a nigga about being committed. I ain’t got a problem with it but before I do that it’s some shit that I want changed and she not willing to compromise so I told her ass she could kick rocks and leave my baby.”
“Why are men scared of commitment?” I asked him seriously. I asked Summer to marry me, but there was still a piece of me that was afraid.
“I’m not afraid. Unlike most niggas I’m ready to settle down. My baby mama got an issue of letting her mama control my shit. This my fucking house and that’s my baby in there. I don’t need another muthafucka coming in here telling me shit. That’s our problem.”
“That’s a simple fix.”
“That’s what you think. Why you ask me about settling down? You flaking out on Summer?”
“I don’t know. Pinkie brings excitement to my life.”
“That bitch. Are you willing to risk it all for this hoe again? When you got a woman that’s willing to birth your child, she becomes something more than just your girl, bruh. Bringing a life into the world isn’t an easy task. You have to have another level of respect for a woman that does that. Women like Pinkie come around all the time. She’ll never be a wife or have kids. But women like Summer only come around every blue moon. She ain’t been perfect but she getting there. Every time she acted stupid was because you did some shit to set her off. Don’t fuck this up just for some excitement with Pinkie. Summer can give you the same thing if you show her, you’re for real.”
“How are you schooling me?”
“You asked. We can’t be out here playing forever. Women are becoming more and more independent. Nigga we got to get our shit together.”
“I can’t have one last time?” I joked.
“That one time can cost you your whole life nigga. Think about that shit.”
The cries of LJ’s baby came roaring through the monitor as he dropped that thought on me. He wasted no time rushing to his child’s aid. I thought I was the mature one and honestly, I was but Pinkie had some kind of voodoo on a nigga that had me second-guessing my love for Summer. The shit had me feeling sick daily. I wake up thinking of ways to be with her and have Summer too. Now LJ had me thinking, was it even worth it.
33. PINKIE
“How long is this shit supposed to take?” I asked as I looked at the glass jar.
I went to see a witch about a love spell to draw Law to me. Yea, I’ve never been desperate for a man before in my life, but I overheard someone talking about it while I was at the gym and was intrigued to see if the shit would work. So far, it hasn’t worked.
I looked over at the other object I had made for Summer and wondered whether it was working for her. I can honestly say that men make you do some strange things. It wasn’t that I loved Law. It was just I wanted him more than he wanted me. I wanted him to beg me for sex. Beg me just to be around him and crawl to me whenever I called.
This was my first time going to this extreme for a nigga’s attention. He blocked me from his phone, I couldn’t go to his gambling house anymore, and his mama called and told me that she only dealing with me on a business level. I was being shut out. Before we slept together, we would run into each other all the time. We flirt, and I keep it moving. Law was a faithful nigga and it was cute but I was used to having what I wanted.
The sound of a car door closing made me hide my shit in the closet. I forgot that Trey was stopping by on his way to work. Trey was really stepping up and paying me back all the money that I gave him to get back on his feet. I started to be a little nicer to him because he was always there when I called him. I opened the door for him before he could ring the doorbell.
“What’s going on with you?” I smiled at him and stepped aside to let him in.
“Nothing, I stopped by to see if you needed anything and to drop your money off. I think this is the last of what I owe you.”
“We even. You just keep it for the baby.”
“What done came over you? You’re never this nice. Got a new nigga or something?” Trey walked in and looked around.
“Nope! No niggas. Why can’t I be nice without you or daddy thinking it’s a nigga.”
“Because you’re never nice. But I appreciate the shit though because having my daughter at the house has added to my expenses. If it wasn’t for my mama, I don’t know what I would do about a babysitter.”
“Have you talked to her mama?”
“I tried but her nigga won’t let her talk on the phone. I said I was going to stop by her crib so she could at least see our daughter.”
“Look at my brother being mature and shit. I’m glad you got your shit together.”
“Shit, the way you made a nigga feel while I was here made me get the hell out of here. I hope you never talk to your husband like that.”
“I’m not wife material. Niggas ain’t shit.”
