Scarlett and Her Prince Charming

“Love and hate are a fine line,” Parker said. “That’s what all my favorite TV shows say. And I do hate you. So it’ll work out. Can we go dance now?”
She really did watch way too much reality TV.
“I’m down,” Sophie said. “I still need to get Mr. Halifax to catch me with my half-kilo.” She lifted her red purse.
“Terrible idea,” I said. “But...I did plan this whole dance. And I don’t want to miss it.”
“Then I better get my girlfriend to the dance before the clock strikes twelve.”
I laughed as Axel lifted me over his shoulder.
My hands fell to his butt as he carried me down the bleachers.
We weren’t driving off in a horse drawn carriage like in the fairytales. But this was a million times better. Because it was so us.
Chapter 28 – Naturally Amazing?
Saturday
As fun as it would have been to do a bunch of dance moves from the 50s, none of us really knew them. So instead we just took turns snapping our fingers and jumping up and down to the beat of the music. I think we actually kind of looked the part, but only because of our outfits.
I threw my hands in the air and spun around.
Axel caught me around the waist and pulled my ass against him. This was certainly not a dance move from the 50s. But I’d always wanted to dance like this with Axel. The way all the other couples did. I shook my hips as his lips fell to my ear.
“You have no idea how many times I dreamed of us dancing like this,” he whispered.
I smiled and did one of the moves I’d learned from Sophie. I bent forward and then arched my back as I came back up.
Axel’s fingers tightened on my hips. “What are you trying to do to me?”
I tilted my head back to look up at him. I actually wasn’t sure what I was trying to do. But I’d really love to redo some of the things we’d done in closets. “Well...what else have you dreamed of doing with me?”
“I’ve told you.” He kissed the side of my neck. “Stealing all your firsts.” His lips fell to my shoulder, making goosebumps rise on my skin.
I somehow managed to turn around to face him. “Should we go find a closet?”
“I’m not stealing this next first in a closet. Actually, I’m hoping not to steal it at all. I’m hoping you’ll give it to me.”
“All my firsts are yours.” It was true. Every single one. I’d wanted to give them to him. And I was so glad I hadn’t messed it all up after all.
“And you said you wanted to start from the beginning.” He smiled down at me. “There’s no rush. We have our whole lives now.”
I smiled up at him.
“Besides, you said you didn’t want to miss the dance. How about I go get us some punch?”
“That sounds perfect. Make sure it’s not spiked though.” I didn’t want to forget one moment of this night.
He laughed. “I’ve got you.” His fingers fell from my hips and he disappeared into the crowd.
“Best night ever!” Sophie yelled at the top of her lungs.
I’d been so lost in my little bubble with Axel that I’d forgotten we were surrounded by our friends. I couldn’t have agreed more with Sophie’s proclamation.
“Yeah it is!” I shimmied at her and she shimmied back. And then we all started jumping up and down again.
The song changed to a slower one and she grabbed my hand. “It’s time for Operation Drug Bust.”
