Uncle James came out of nowhere and cleared his throat. “No sitting on people’s laps in the cafeteria.”

I was pretty sure if he made his random rules less specific he wouldn’t have to yell at them all the time.

Scarlett laughed and moved back to her seat. “Sorry, Dad.”

“Mhm,” Uncle James said, but he was squinting at Axel.

Axel ignored him.

Which made me smile. I wasn’t sure if the two of them would ever get along. I actually thought Axel liked winding him up whenever he got the chance.

“See you in class later, pumpkin,” her dad said and ruffled her hair.

Her face turned a little red as she tried to smooth her hair back in place.

“So what are we doing, Scar?” Jacob asked. “Are we going out or staying in?”

“Whatever you guys want to do,” she said.

“Wait, Saturday is Valentine’s Day, right?” Adonis asked.

I didn’t look at him. Saturday was Valentine’s Day. And it was probably too soon for us to spend that holiday together, right? Yeah, definitely.

“It is,” Axel said. “It’s okay if you already have plans or something.”

Adonis shrugged. “Yeah, I do kind of have plans earlier that day...”

“Right, you don’t have to come,” I quickly said. “Obviously.” I forced a laugh.

Adonis looked down at me. “Are you uninviting me, Aphrodite?”

“No, you just said you were busy...”

“Yeah, with you. I have a thing planned. But what time is the party? We can’t miss pumpkin’s 18th.”

I laughed. “We have plans?”

“It’s Valentine’s Day. And you’re my girlfriend. Of course we have plans.”

“Well this is news to me.”

“No it’s not,” he said and wrapped his arm around my shoulders. “What time are we meeting up, guys?”

Scarlett smiled at me. “How about we meet in our secret lair at like 7?”

“Oooh,” Adonis said. “I’m finally getting invited to the secret lair. I’m honored.”

She laughed. “But does 7 work?”

“Yeah, that’s perfect. But what’s the food situation? Should we eat first? Or are we all going out for a romantic Valentine’s Day dinner together? Because we’re going to be starving.”

Axel shook his head, but chuckled.

“Why are we going to be starving?” I asked.

“Because we’re going to be working up an appetite all afternoon.”

Liam laughed.
