I shook my head.
“Good.”
He leaned forward and I took the opportunity to roll away.
“But I am trying to go down to the beach,” I said.
He laughed as he climbed onto the bed after me. “We can do that tomorrow.”
“Or today.”
We somehow ended up wrassling on the bed. I hit him with a pillow and then he grabbed my wrists, pinning me to the mattress.
My chest rose and fell fast as I looked up at him. God, he really was so beautiful. The only thing prettier than the blue of the ocean was the green of his eyes. And I felt my will bending. Maybe if I did what he wanted for a year, then he’d come with me to campus. Maybe he’d even reconsider applying.
“What are you thinking?” he asked.
“That I like this.”
He placed a soft kiss against my lips. “Me too.”
Yeah, my will was bending.
“I have something else for you,” he said.
“Is there some kind of mile high club equivalent at a resort?”
He laughed. “I think it’s banging in every pool here. Which I do plan on doing. But no, it’s something else.” He released me from his hold and climbed off the bed. And then he got down on one knee.
My heart leapt to my throat. “What are you doing?”
He smiled up at me. “Aphrodite, will you...”
“Adonis, this is crazy.”
“Not that crazy.”
I just stared at him.
“Expected really. I’m a little early asking, sure, but...”
“You’re insane.”
He laughed. “You didn’t let me finish. Will you...go to prom with me?”
I laughed. “You almost gave me a heart attack.”
He shook his head. “If I’d asked you to marry me, we both know you would have said yes. And that you’d be willing to elope right here. Don’t lie.”
I was pretty sure he was right.
“Is that a yes?” he asked.
“To the prom thing?”
He laughed. “Yes, Aphrodite. To the prom thing. Will you be my date?”
I slid off the bed and wrapped my arms around him. “Yes.” But I was pretty sure I was saying yes to all of it.
