Her phone buzzed again. He’d already anticipated her question and his response was ready. “Aphrodite wouldn’t be on this app. She’s in love with Hephaestus.”

“That asshole,” I said. “Why does he keep calling Mr. Halifax that?”

Scarlett started typing back. “You think you’d be a better fit, mystery man?”

“Don’t,” I started, but she’d already hit send. I groaned. But I did peer over her shoulder to see his response a minute later.

“I certainly wouldn’t let another man dance with her like that if she was mine. Tell me, has she made that mistake I warned her not to make yet?”

Scarlett looked up at me.

“He’s talking about Mr. Halifax.” I grabbed her phone. “He’s not a mistake,” I typed out. “Dancing with you was.”

“Don’t send that...” Scarlett started.

But it was too late. I’d already hit the button.

“Is that you now, Aphrodite?”

I just glared at his words.

And then another message came through: “Happy Thanksgiving, goddess.”

I swallowed hard.

“He’s so romantic,” Scarlett said. “Isn’t he?”

“He’s an arrogant ass.”

“What? Are we not reading the same messages right now? I love his nickname for you. And I think he seems concerned about you.”

“I don’t need him to be concerned about me,” I snapped. “He doesn’t even know me. What I need is for him to stay out of my business. And you guys are inviting him in.”

Scarlett’s phone buzzed again.

“Say something, Aphrodite.”

Scarlett held out her phone to me.

I shook my head. I hadn’t meant to type anything in the first place. He’d just pissed me off.

Scarlett sighed. “You really don’t want to talk to him? Not even a little bit? To at least see who he is?”

“Doesn’t he have a profile?” RJ asked. “We could just read that.”

Thank you, RJ.

“Right.” Scarlett clicked out of the messages and pulled up his profile. “Score! He answered all the questions!”

“Hit us with them,” RJ said.

“Do you have any pets? No, but I love doves.” Scarlett tilted her head to the side. “That’s kind of a weird response. I’m kind of picturing that lady from Home Alone surrounded by pigeons now.”

I laughed. “He must have changed all his responses before he swiped back on me. Aphrodite’s patron bird was the dove.”

“Oh.” She sighed. “Darn it.”

“Well, what are his other responses?” Liam asked. “Maybe he slipped up somewhere and it can give us a clue as to who he really is.”
