He turned his attention back to me. “A stripper is definitely not what I need.”
“Then what do you need? It’s killing me seeing you so sad.”
“I’m not sad. I’m happy for them.”
I believed him. I knew he was happy for Scarlett and Axel. But I also knew he still had feelings for her. It was obvious. All the stolen glances he thought no one saw. Jacob loved Scarlett. But she’d loved Axel first.
I was used to seeing Jacob with a smile on his face. These past few weeks they’d grown more and more scarce. And I wanted to help him bring them back. “You know, we should go out just the two of us.”
He gave me a weird look.
I laughed. “Not as a date, Jacob. I can be your wing-woman.”
“I’m going to pass on that,” he said with a chuckle.
“Why? I’d be great at it. I know all your best qualities.”
He lifted his eyebrow.
“Most importantly.” I started pulling my palms apart to show him his most important measurement. And then I waggled my eyebrows at him. “Scarlett did tell me, you know.”
He grabbed one of my hands to lower it. “I don’t need a wing-woman. I’m fine, Soph.”
“Are you?”
“Are you?” he countered.
“I don’t know what you’re referring to.”
“Have you deleted that dumb app yet?” he asked.
I shrugged. “I keep forgetting.”
“Do it now.”
“Why are you being so bossy? I’m trying to show you my vision, here.” I gestured around the room.
He sighed. “So where are you planning on seducing our school mascot?”
I smiled. “In our secret lair, of course.”
“Ew. On the couch we were just sitting on?”
“No, probably on the desk. I have this running fantasy in my head about being with Mr. Halifax on a desk.”
Jacob just shook his head. “Did you send that text to him?”
“Not yet. I’m still thinking it over.” I hated to admit it, but I was actually a little nervous to send it.
What if Mr. Halifax didn’t respond? I mean...sure, I could come up with some reason why he didn’t. Like he was worried we’d be caught and he didn’t want a cyber trail. But it would be hard to shake the obvious...that he wasn’t interested.
And right now in my head, Mr. Halifax was so into me. I wasn’t sure I wanted to risk my fantasy going poof. Especially when I was soooo close to making it real by failing my next test.
I pressed my lips together. That sounded bad in my head. But it was fine. If my failing failed, I could still seduce him at our Christmas Eve Eve party. God, how could I make this party good?
“Can we go back to the app real quick?” Jacob asked.
I groaned. “I’ll delete it later. I left my phone in my bag.”
