I sighed. “Yeah. Me too.” And seeing Olivia’s giant boobs in fig leaves probably would cheer him up a bit. But I wasn’t sure pushing him was the right move. “What did he mean when he said after what I told you? What did he tell you about Olivia?”
Scarlett looked down at her tray. “That she wasn’t me.”
Oh, Jacob.
Scarlett started blinking fast. “I didn’t mean to hurt him. I...”
“New plan for our party. Let’s find the hottest girl at the party and get Jacob to dance with her.”
Scarlett sniffed and then nodded. “I like that plan.”
I smiled. “And before you say anything, no, I’m not talking about me. I’ll be busy banging Mr. Halifax.”
She laughed.
I looked around the cafeteria. Unfortunately, I was pretty sure Jacob had a thing for redheads. And that made things significantly harder.
“Wait, I have an idea!” I said. “We should make a profile for Jacob on that app. And catfish some girl for him.”
Scarlett shook her head. “I promised Axel I wouldn’t go on that app anymore.”
“When you were talking to hot guys. He won’t care if you’re talking to girls. Come on, it’ll be fun. Let’s do it after school.”
“But Jacob hated that you were on that app. He’s worried about people blackmailing us.”
“I’m not going to put his last name,” I said. “It’ll be fine.”
Scarlett sighed. “Okay. But I’m looping Axel in.”
I shrugged. “Fine. He’ll be helpful because he has first-hand knowledge about Jacob’s type.” I stared at her.
“Stop it.”
“Sorry, but it’s true. Now I’d like to circle back to the snake thing...”
“Absolutely not, Soph.”
I laughed. “I know. I’ll text Mr. Tanner right after school. Monkeys will be better.”
“Monkeys will definitely be better.”
This was going to be the best party ever.
Chapter 15 – Pond Leave Hole In Floor
Tuesday – One Week Later
“It’s everything I imagined,” I said. “Actually, no. It’s better.” I turned in a circle, staring at all the foliage. It was like we’d walked into a lush garden. Fairy lights streamed between potted trees that lined the walls. And the walls themselves were covered in vines with huge flowers. It was the most beautiful thing I’d ever seen.
Scarlett hadn’t said a word. I turned toward her.
“Isn’t it everything?” I asked.
“I have no words.” She shook her head. “Seriously, how did Mr. Tanner do all of this? I mean, I know Mr. Nigel helped too because he kept asking Axel questions. But...seriously. This must have been so much work.”
“They’re like magic.”
Scarlett nodded.
