“So,” I started, watching Kenzi, “Are we going to talk about what happened?”

Her ‘outburst’ this morning had been on my mind.

Kenzi swallowed. “Why? Do you want it to happen again?”

I quirked a brow in response. She could worry about me any time she wanted. It was way better than indifference.

“Sorry bud, you’ll have to take me out on a date if you want me to sleep with you again.”

My eyes widened, and when Kenzi realized what she’d said she slapped her hand over her mouth. “I don’t know why I said that.” Her voice was muffled by her palm.

“I was talking about this morning, but if you want to talk about the other thing that happened between us, I’m down.”

I hadn’t been able to stop thinking about sex with Kenzi since she left my house on Sunday, but after she’d freaked out in the bathroom I chose to give her space. Until this morning.

Kenzi cleared her throat and nibbled on her bottom lip. I decided to give her an out.

“Tell me what happened this morning.”

Her shoulders dropped as if she was relieved, but I could tell she was still contemplating what exactly she wanted to tell me.

“I saw Liam elbow you in the head and I freaked out. I don’t know why.”

I did. She freaked because she cared, even if she didn’t come to the realization yet.

“Running to you wasn’t a choice,” she added softly. “It just…happened.”

Kind of like how we just happened. I wasn’t a choir boy before I met Kenzi. I hooked up with girls, had my fair share of one night stands, but when I met Kenzi I knew she was it. I didn’t think twice about ever being with someone else. She was all I wanted. All I needed.

The waitress interrupted us and I paid our bill. Kenzi and I were both quiet when we walked back to my truck and when we stepped outside, Kenzi stood still and looked at me.

For only a heartbeat.

And then she threw herself at me, wrapped her arms around my neck and kissed me.
