“Channing?” Kalon’s voice is scratchy, and so damn sexy.

“Hi,” is what I choose to go with because I’m classy like that. My phone beeps, and I see Kalon is requesting a video call. I hustle inside and click accept. His face appears on the screen, and I notice he’s shirtless. My brain short-circuits, and my gaze falls to his chest. Muscles and tattoos, and tattoos and muscles. Either combination does it for me. He chuckles, and I look at his face, feeling my own cheeks warm. “Sorry.” I shake my head. “My, uh, car was just dropped off.”

Kalon grins, despite having just woken up. He sits up against his headboard, his duvet sliding down his abs. “I’m glad it arrived safely.” He stretches an arm behind his head and flexes his bicep. I swear, by the glint in his eye, he’s doing it deliberately. Like when he kissed my cheek on Saturday night and made me stupid.

“As much as I love the car, where am I supposed to park it?”

He frowns. “I didn’t think of that.”

“I mean, I can drive it to work for today and maybe park it in a garage, but it’s not insured so, I don’t know…” I trail off, simply because he’s watching me. Like really watching me. And if I were to lower my phone, he’d see I’m not wearing a bra — damn things are already too small — beneath my t-shirt. Which I think might actually be one of his. Come to think of it, that could be why the guy who dropped off my car was so friendly. He got an eyeful of boob. Best not to mention that to Kalon, though.

“I’ll get the insurance sorted out for you today, and find you a storage garage close to your apartment.”

“Okay, thank you. And thank you again for the car, I do love it.”

“I’m glad. Have lunch with me today.”

Abort, abort, abort, my mind screams. I absolutely cannot see this man today. Even if I want to. The chances of me keeping my trap shut about both me and Tala are minuscule, so it’s better not to take the chance.

“I’m a little busy today, Kalon. Maybe another time.” As much as it pains me to decline, I know it’s the right thing to do. He’ll know everything soon enough, and then there’s no going back.

He shrugs and says, “Okay,” like it’s no big deal. Then, “Come to the kids’ party tomorrow night?”

Oh for fuck’s sake. He’s really fucking persistent. Why wasn’t he this persistent when I ended things with him?

“I’d love to, but I have plans with the girls.” I don’t, but he doesn’t need to know that.

“I’ll get you to go on a date with me again, Channing.” Come again? He gives me a lopsided smile. “I’m ruthless when it comes to getting what I want, and I want you.”

My mouth drops open, but before I can formulate an appropriate response, Kalon ends the call.

What.

The.

Hell.

Was.

That?
