Pulling back, Mina smiled up at me through her tears. You can’t imagine what it means that you gave me a shoutout.”
She then proceeded to tell me a wild story about this influencer who was supposed to make or break her business. There was some nudity involved when a jackass spilled beer on her dress, which made me grunt like a caveman, and then a catastrophe with a keg when she tried to give the tool of an influencer a taste of her newest concoction.
Placing her hands on my face, she smiled up at me. “You had already turned the worst day possible into the best before you made that video. And now–” She leaned up to kiss me tenderly. “You made it the best.”
“I could say the same for you.”
“Me? What did I do?”
With a ragged sigh, I replied, “Even though I was excited to make a trip with Owen, it was also hitting me hard that this was the first time I was doing it solo. I guess you could say I got really caught up in my feelings.”
“That’s understandable.”
A smile stretched across my face. “And then just when I was at my lowest thinking my son had been taken, this beautiful and caring woman came into my life.”
“Must I correct you yet again?”
I shook my head. “Nope. It wasn’t about Ozzy luring Owen. It was kismet and fate and all those things I used to think were bullshit.”
Mina’s eyes flared at my proclamation. “You’re right it was fate.”
Holding her intense gaze, I searched his eyes. “Mina Hansen, where have you been all my life?”
“Lost. Searching,” she answered honestly.
“And now you’re found,” I pronounced.
“And now you’re found,” she said.
“I sure as hell am.”
After bringing my mouth to hers, I sealed the moment with a kiss.
CHAPTER ELEVEN: MINA
Someone was whistling. Blinking my eyes, I stared up at the predawn sky–the kind with streaks of pinks and blues. It was so beautiful that I momentarily forgot that I normally didn’t wake up staring at the sky.
I also didn’t wake up naked outside of my restaurant. In the dark, I was tucked away from prying eyes last night in the dark, but now I was on display to anyone coming down the river. And from the tone of the whistles, it was a group of women.
When I tried shooting upright, I realized something was on top of me. Or I should say someone. One glance at the dark head of hair, and I realized it was Gavin. We had somehow managed to fall asleep after screwing under the stars.
As the whistling continued, a chorus of hooting and hollering started up. Shaking Gavin, I said, “Wake up!”
“Sorry, Coach, I’ll block it this time,” Gavin murmured.
“WAKE UP!” I shouted.
Startling awake, Gavin sprung off of me and onto his feet. His confused gaze bounced around the clearing. “We fell asleep out here,” I explained.
“It’s so weird. I was dreaming I was at a game, and the ref was blasting his whistle at me.”
“Actually, it wasn’t a dream.”
His brows furrowed. “What do you mean?”
At that moment, another woman hooted from the water. “Whoooo! Nice ass!”
As Gavin whirled around, I frantically covered up with the blanket. At the sight of several canoes and paddle boards in the water, Gavin quickly covered his junk with his hands. Of course, he was so endowed it didn’t help much.
