She opens the record.

The graduation year matches, and the license is active at a medical office outside Saratoga Springs.

Emma pushes the laptop closer between us. “That’s her.”

“It could be.” I compare the dates again because finding the right name doesn’t mean I’m willing to take chances with the wrong woman.

Emma reaches for my phone and holds it out to me. “Then verify it.”

I take it from her. “I was going to.”

“I know you were.”

I call Theo, who answers with the kind of irritated sigh that tells me I’ve interrupted dinner. “Please tell me the building isn’t on fire.”

“I need you to verify a name.”

His tone changes when I give him Nora’s information. “I’ll call you back.”

While we wait, Emma rests one hand over her stomach.

I watch the movement. “Everything okay?”

“One of them’s moving.”

I push my chair back and crouch beside her before she can tease me.

I keep my hand exactly where Emma puts it as she watches my face, and just when I start wondering whether I’ve missed it, a faint movement presses beneath my palm.

My fingers spread instinctively over her stomach.

Emma catches my reaction. “You felt that.”

Before I can answer, Babs abandons the stuffed animal house and appears beside my shoulder. “Did the baby kick you?”

“Barely.”

Biddy joins her sister and leans close to Emma’s stomach. “Can it kick me?”

Emma laughs. “Maybe later.”

Babs puts her face near Emma’s belly. “Baby, kick Daddy again.”

“Why me?”

She looks up. “Because you like it.”

I can’t argue with that before my phone starts ringing in my pocket.

Theo.

I stand and put the call on speaker.

“I found Nora Elizabeth Bell,” he says. “The dates match the Haven House records, and the nursing qualification matches your program. Same woman.”

Emma reaches for my hand.

Theo continues. “I’ve sent you her current residential address.”
