I want a future. With him. And that terrifies me more than the past I’m running from.
Auggie’s thumb brushes against my throat before coming to rest beneath my jaw. The look in his eyes steals my breath. Desire and restraint war with each other. And beneath it, the most dangerous thing of all.
Longing.
I couldn’t say who leaned in first.
Maybe it was me.
Maybe it was Auggie.
Maybe we’ve been building to this moment since I crashed in Ravens Hollow.
His lips find mine, soft but hesitant, as though he’s giving me a chance to pull away.
I don’t.
Instead, I slide my hands into his hair and pull him closer.
His hands drift from my waist to cradle the back of my head. I brush my tongue along the seam of his lips, asking—no begging—for more.
A soft moan vibrates against my lips.
Our tongues meet, exploring one another with slow, tentative curiosity. The unexpected brush of cool metal sends a pleasant shiver down my spine. Little sparks dance along my skin as I press myself closer to him.
The kiss deepens, slow and unhurried.
It’s as if we’re memorizing the taste and feel of each other.
Something brushes against my lip.
Fangs.
Auggie pulls back, chest rising and falling in uneven breaths as he rests his forehead against mine.
“Moonlight,” he says, voice rough with emotion and desire.
I don’t give him the chance to finish.
“Don’t hide from me, Auggie.”
He tries to pull away from me, but I hold him firm.
“I don’t want to hurt you,” he whispers.
I cup his face gently, brushing my thumbs along his jaw.
“You won’t hurt me.”
“You don’t know that,” he protests.
“I know you,” I say, pressing a kiss to the corner of his mouth. “And you won’t hurt me.” I press another kiss to the opposite side.
My lips meet his once more.
He hesitates for a moment, then melts into me, sighing pleasantly.
Once more the world falls away, until all that’s left is the two of us and the taste and feel of each other.
