“Come for me, my Moonlight, my love.”

Love.

I feel it. The truth in his words.

That’s all it takes.

That one word sends me screaming his name over the edge as darkness fills my vision. Auggie erupts inside of me, calling out my name as he continues to pump me through my orgasm.

I feel the softening of Auggie’s cock as the tremors and aftershocks subside. He presses his sweat-covered head to mine, kissing me gently before rolling us so I can drape my body over his.

I trace lazy circles on Auggie’s chest as our breathing slows. His hands are still wrapped around me, holding me close almost as if he fears I’ll disappear if he lets go.

“Did I hurt you?”

I turn my face to look at him, a smile playing at my lips.

“Not at all. Are you okay?”

“I’m wonderful,” he murmurs reverently.

We lay in the quiet aftermath of our joining as a heaviness takes hold of my eyelids. At some point, we both drift off, wrapped up in each other's arms.

A buzzing noise wakes me from my sleep.

“Auggie,” I mumble, voice thick with sleep.

He grumbles, tugging me to his side.

I nudge him more forcefully as the buzzing persists.

“Auggie. Something is buzzing.”

He releases me, tossing the covers off and rising from the bed. I watch him rummage through our pile of discarded clothes. I roll over and let sleep start to reclaim me. I’m just drifting off when Auggie shouts.

“Fuck!”

I shoot upright instantly, a ripple of fear racing down my spine. Auggie’s face is illuminated by the soft glow of his phone.

“What’s wrong?”

“Officer Burrows texted me since I didn’t answer my phone. My house was broken into. He said it’s worse than your apartment was. Lots of damage,” he says, punching the phone screen and lifting it to his ear.

He begins speaking, but it sounds like he’s a million miles away.

My stomach bottoms out.

Because I know.

In my gut, I know. It’s Chad.

The realization sucker punches me, leaving me breathless.

I move on autopilot, retrieving my clothes from the floor to dress, then taking Auggie’s hand and locking up before we get into his car and head to his house.

I broke every rule, thinking things could be different. But I forgot the most important thing.

The universe hates me.
