The King and the Nine

His pace was gentle, but determined, quickening when I dragged my nails down his back, begging for him to move faster. Each intoxicating thrust of his hips making me slip further away from myself.

“Adrian,” I cried, swiping my tongue against his.

He pulled his mouth from mine and stopped his thrusting, making me whimper from the loss of his movement. “That’s not my name anymore to you, wife.” He smiled.

He was so handsome.

“You’re right.” I smiled back. “Make me come undone, husband.”

His eyes burned at my avowal, and he shifted his hips, so he was seated in me fully.

He buried his head in my neck, biting softly, as his strokes grew stronger, almost messy, working his way to the end we were both ravenous for.

“You feel so good,” he whispered, then kissed my neck, then my face, spearing my mouth once more with his tongue.

My body burned from the heat of him, his flame roiling along the surface of his skin.

I broke against him, right as release found him, my husband calling out for me even though I was right there with him, going over the edge together as his partner in life.

When he finally stilled on top of me, I gently cupped his face with both hands.

“Forever,” I said.

“Forever,” he repeated, resting his forehead against my heart.

We spent another few hours in bed, holding each other, then somehow finding the energy to make love again.

I could’ve stayed in bed all day with him like this. But a knock sounded from the door, interrupting our marital bliss.

Adrian groaned at the interruption, leaving me wrapped in the bedsheets as he slowly walked to the door, throwing on a pair of pants before cracking it open slightly.

“King Leo has requested your presence in the meeting room,” said the timid voice of a female staff member, “and Lady Brynlynn, if she’s . . . um . . .” The woman cleared her throat. “If she’s in there, as well? Her chambers were empty when I went to call on her.”

So much for being discreet.

It was honestly a miracle we’d lasted this long sneaking around.

“Thank you,” Adrian said. “We’ll be there shortly. I would appreciate if you kept this to yourself.”

“Of course,” the woman whispered, scuttling away.

Adrian walked back to me, laughing to himself.

I rolled my eyes at him. “You really think she will keep this to herself?”

“Probably not, but does it matter?” He looked unsure. Like I’d possibly changed my mind and didn’t want to be married to him after all.

I rose to my knees, letting the sheets fall away from me, meeting him at the edge of the bed. “Marrying you is the best thing I’ve ever done.”

He looked relieved, reaching for me.

I reached for him, stroking my hands softly over his chest. “But, probably best we tell Leo, before word gets around. I want him to hear it from us, that we’ve chosen each other. I want the world to know you’re mine.”

He kissed me, then placed a soft kiss on each of my brows. “Come on, let’s get you dressed. If I stare at your bare breasts any longer, I will decline the king’s summons and refuse to leave this room until I’ve had you one more time.”

I blushed. My husband was so needy.

“Better cover them up, then.” I giggled, pulling the sheets so that I was covered.
