I tried to shout his name as I threw myself inside the bedroom, staring in horror as Adrian’s broad back flexed between the woman’s thighs. His arm moving in a practiced pace. Her blond hair thrown back across the white sheets, nails digging into the rich brown of his hair. Holding his mouth down against her core.
I threw my hands out, throwing my power in her direction.
I wanted to obliterate her to nothing.
Turn her body into dust.
But I didn’t have any power.
I was nothing.
No one.
The world tilted again, and my back hit something soft.
My eyes stared up at the tan stone of the cottage ceiling.
The stitching in my lips ripped apart in agony as a wave of pleasure coursed through me. The pain and pleasure blending.
I grabbed his hair, holding on as the second wave hit.
“Adrian,” I moaned, clinging to him.
“That’s it,” he purred, burying his tongue deep inside me.
Tears leaked from my eyes at the sensation of him.
“Adrian,” I cried, looking down at him, his chocolate eyes shifting to hazel.
“My queen,” Leo whispered from between my legs, kissing the insides of my thighs.
I shot up, confused at when Leo had gotten here.
Where had Adrian gone?
Leo looked concerned. “Bryn, what’s wrong?”
My lips burned as a needle with thread pierced the corner of my mouth, weaving across my lips.
Blood poured down my chin and breasts, dripping onto Leo’s sheets like an apocalyptic rain.
The world tilted one last time, and I was in my dark green uniform, staring at a circle of giant boulders.
Leo and Adrian stood at its center.
“You know who to choose,” Adrian whispered, his eyes pleading with me.
“But she’s already chosen,” Leo said, his eyes twinkling with stars of aquamarine.
A knife pierced through my chest, and I dropped to my knees, unable to scream in anguish.
Hector was there, the leader from Six, pushing the knife deeper inside my chest. I felt the tip of it shred through the skin at my back.
“You’ll never survive Delirium, stupid girl,” he snarled. “You’ll be with your brother soon enough, don’t you worry.”
Hunter’s body dropped in front of me, mauled and mangled, oozing rotten eggs.
Wake up, wake up, wake up, I screamed silently at myself, pulling my hair from the roots.
