“And the honeymoon.”
I smiled. “And the honeymoon.”
He leaned over and kissed me. Slowly. Tenderly.
There was no grand declaration. No contract. No bargain. No condition attached. Just us.
When he pulled back, I looked out at the snow again. The world outside was cold and white and changing. Inside, Holden’s hand was warm around mine.
I’d once thought happily ever after was something that happened when you found the right person.
I’d been wrong.
It wasn’t an ending.
It was this. Choosing each other on ordinary mornings. Fighting and forgiving. Building something. Making plans. Changing them. Dreaming bigger. Learning how to be a family. And waking up every day with the person you wanted beside you.
Holden rested his forehead against mine. “So,” he said. “Where are we going?”
I smiled. “I don’t know yet.”
“Good.”
“Why?”
“Because we have ten years to figure it out.”
I laughed. “Ten?”
“At least.”
I looked at him. Then at the snow. Then down at our joined hands.
“Okay.”
He kissed me again. And for the first time in my life, I didn’t need to know exactly what came next.
I had my home. My dreams. My family.
And him.
That was enough. More than enough.
It was everything.
