Zann sniggered and gave her ass a quick squeeze. “Will you wear some, too?”
Lydia arched a brow at her. “You would really rather I wear a pair of straight-out-of-the-Ozarks, mountain man long johns instead of La Perla?”
“Oh. Well. When you put it that way…” Zann murmured, her eyes darkening as she massaged Lydia’s behind. “Yeah. You should definitely stick to the lingerie.”
“Thought so,” Lydia chuckled. She nuzzled her lips. “But if you—”
She was interrupted by Aspen shouting, “No sex on the beach!”
“Dude! Shut up!” Kit yelled. “Why would you ruin it?”
“Should have known we wouldn’t get the beach to ourselves all morning,” Lydia muttered, smiling at the puff of laughter the quip drew from Zann. She kissed her quickly before pulling away to lightheartedly glower at their friends, who were both wearing black running shorts and long-sleeved, highlighter yellow tech tees. Their bare feet were caked in enough sand that it was clear they’d been out for a while. “You’re seriously running?”
“Nervous energy,” Aspen explained with a shrug. “And my mom and Alder basically blew up our door this morning to steal Eve away for a mani/pedi and mimosas or something in Santa Barbara.”
Lydia frowned. “I thought we were doing our nails later this morning, before hair and pictures?”
Aspen shrugged. “I think that’s still the plan for you guys? I dunno. My mom is just beyond pissed, still, at the Morrisons for how they’ve treated Eve, and I think she wanted to try to give her a little mother-daughter time before the wedding.”
“And you weren’t invited?” Zann teased.
“Dude, no.” Aspen laughed. “That’s not my thing. I’d rather run.”
“And you?” Zann asked Kit.
“You know me.” Kit smiled and ruffled a hand through her hair. “I’m always a sucker for a good time.”
Lydia inclined her head. “I would’ve thought your good time would include testing the flexibility of a leggy brunette.”
“Yeah, well…” Kit shrugged. “The leggy brunette is doing a morning-after coffee debrief with her not-so-leggy friend who took the Uber of Shame home this morning.”
“Oh shit,” Zann laughed.
“Wait. What?” Lydia blinked. Yeah, when they’d left the restaurant last night, Kit, Jack, and Michael were talking about wingmanning for Bonnie, but she hadn’t expected anything to come of it. “She actually hooked up with someone?”
Kit looked at her like she was stupid. “Do you take the Uber of Shame for any other reason?”
Well, no, but… “Damn,” Lydia muttered, shaking her head.
Zann whistled softly in agreement. “You guys are such a bad influence.”
“Yeah, well…” Kit sniggered. “Who knows? Maybe she’ll loosen up a little now that she’s gotten some.”
Lydia shared a look with Aspen and Zann, and then laughed as they all said, “Doubt it.”
“Fuck, we’re all so bad,” Aspen chuckled.
“Hey, I was being hopeful,” Kit pointed out with an absolutely shit-eating grin. “Y’all, on the other hand…” She wagged a finger at them accusingly.
Aspen held her hands up. “Bonnie’s just a little too introverted to run with this crowd. When she’s come out to visit, and it’s just the three of us, she’s been a lot less reserved. And Eve—”
“Isn’t exactly a card-carrying member of Team Shenanigans and Fuckery,” Lydia said. “Though, to be fair, it’s a pretty high bar for anyone to measure up to when you have the captains of that team running amok amongst you.”
“Aww, thanks!” Kit chirped.
Lydia shot her an unimpressed look. “I meant Michael and Jack,” she deadpanned.
Kit rolled her eyes. “Whatever,” she sassed, flipping her off.
