“For watching them get to second base?” he scoffed. “That’s hardly the worst thing we’ve done tonight.”
He had a point. The dead body in the basement was proof of that.
I nudged him. “I really want to know my score.”
He leaned in and kissed me. “Definitely a ten. No notes.”
I laughed. “Thanks.”
“You could give Dax some tips…oh wait, he’s doing the ball squeeze thing. Luca likes that.”
“So do you, I’ve noticed.”
“I like anything as long as it involves you touching me.”
I raised an eyebrow. “Anything?”
“You’ve got that look on your face that scares me.”
I cuddled into his side and laughed quietly. “Are we completely messed up to be laughing and having sex after killing my own flesh and blood?”
“Do you think he felt guilty when he tried to blow our car up?”
If I had any lingering doubts over my moral compass, that evaporated them. “No.”
“So, we aren’t going to mourn a man who made his bed and is now lying in it.”
My thoughts flickered to my mom and what she’d do without my father to protect her. But I couldn’t bring myself to care. That was up to her and my brothers now. None of them had bothered to try to help me when I’d been pregnant and sold off into an arranged marriage.
I suddenly realized Luca and Dax were watching us, and I cleared my throat to get Lynx’s attention. He followed my line of sight to the glass sliding door.
Luca opened it, a single eyebrow raised. “Hey, perverts. You just sitting there watching like it’s a movie theater?”
Lynx grinned at him. “More like a live action stage play.”
Luca just shook his head.
Dax’s gaze fell to me, worry in his eyes.
I’d always been able to read him like a book. He was so incredibly sweet and big-hearted, I knew he was currently having a silent, internal battle with himself over whether he and Luca becoming something more than friends was a betrayal to me. I stood and crossed the room, taking both his cheeks between my hands.
I grinned at him. “That was hot.”
He laughed. “I would have talked to you first. If I’d…”
“If you’d known?” I supplied for him.
He nodded. “Yeah.”
“I’m hardly going to get upset over you messing around with Luca when I do the same thing.”
He touched his forehead to mine but then drew back an inch. “I don’t think we’re just messing around.”
I smiled softly. “I know.” I pressed my lips against his briefly, but as much as I wanted to deepen the kiss and take it further, I needed to say something else first.
I turned to Luca and moved to stand in front of him. “I do remember that night at the clubhouse and promising each other we’d kill our fathers. And you’re right. I couldn’t have been the one to pull the trigger. So what I should have said downstairs, what I’m saying now, is thank you for being the one who was brave enough to do it.”
He breathed out slowly, like he’d been holding on to tension.
