Stay Little Fighter

The clip is almost empty, and given how long it’s been since Ronan has fired, I can only assume he’s in the same boat.

Two men approach the motel, their weapons drawn as they move with precision. I have no fucking clue how Vega is affording this kind of manpower, but I’m going to get to the bottom of it as soon as we make it out of here.

If we make it out of here.

Just as the thought crosses my mind, a car screams into the parking lot alongside a spray of bullets that has me ducking back beneath the window.

“Please tell me these are your guys?” Ronan calls out as the men approaching the motel dive onto the ground.

Remy’s matte black McLaren comes into view with Rocco hanging out of the open window with a semi-automatic clutched in his hands.

I slump down beneath the window for a moment, allowing relief to wash over me. I may have never thought the idea into the universe, but there were moments over the last fifteen minutes where I questioned whether we wouldn’t make it out alive.

“Yep,” I finally reply.

I lift my head up when the sound of guns quietens.

The van Sebastian was sitting in when Corbin accessed the cameras suddenly jerks into motion. He makes it a few yards before the tires are popped one by one, and Ryker appears beside the driver’s side door with his gun pointed at Vega.

Movement behind me pulls my attention to Ronan shoving things in bags without bothering to check who they belong to.

With one final glance out the window to ensure our attackers are dead or disarmed, I push to my feet and tuck my weapon into the back of my pants.

“You okay?”

Ronan’s eyes flick up to meet mine, his jaw set in a hard line. “I’ll be better once we make sure Chloe and Damon are okay.”

I nod and step into the adjoining room, following his lead in throwing anything I pick up into the closest bag.

The guys outside have a handle on it and the sooner we’re out of this godforsaken motel, the better.

By the time we step into the cool night, Ryker has Sebastian face down in the gravel with his boot in the center of his back while he talks to Rocco.

“Boss man!” he greets with a wide smile.

“What have I told you about that nickname?”

He smirks and pats my shoulder before turning back to Ryker.

“He give you anything?” I ask.

“Nope.” He chuckles. “Seems Sebby here knows how desperate I am to whip out my knives after a few months off the tools.”

Rocco barks out a laugh and stalks off to help Remy throw a body into the back of one of the vans they came in.

“The guys already called in the cleanup crew, and the motel manager is nowhere to be seen. Wouldn’t be surprised if they’re the ones that sold us out and didn’t want to be here for the fallout.”

“Other guests?”

“Negative. We were the only ones checked in for the night.”

I frown. Even off the beaten track, I would have expected other guests, but at least it will save us having to pay for their silence.

“I’m going to tie this asshole up and get him loaded up. You want to see if you can find Chloe and the asshole Lombardi?”

I scoff. “You know you can’t keep calling him things like that, right? Especially when you’re the one playing matchmaker.”

“Just because Chloe likes him doesn’t mean I have to. I just have to be nice to him when she’s around.”
